| i've always been a fan of self indulgence so i'll give her a listen. The only time you come off as a douche in these type of situations is when the finished product sucks. |

| Remember that 2 hour mix Lovebirds did of only his own tracks? I had never even heard of him before, but he crafted an awesome 2 hour set full of great tracks to promote him and his upcoming releases. I thought that was a pretty class move. But again, I am kinda siding with the people who say this is not a promotional effort, he's already got the essential mix slot, he could've been more creative..... |

Was this a live set, or just a DJ set? Both have long-standing precedents: The FSOL had EMs that were basically just "live performances" of their own material way back around '94, and BT played a set of his own productions (including the ing Voyage Of Ima) in '95. Although he did at least use some interesting bridging tracks by other artists.
There's nothing technically wrong with any of this, but it certainly isn't why I tune into the Essential Mix. Some of my favourite EMs were the ones where artists played rare DJ sets and you got a chance to hear their influences or how they approached the idea. The FSOL did a set in '93, Leftfield in '94, BT had a proper go in '97 and played everything from IDM to trance to drum 'n bass, William Orbit had a bit of a mad EM in 2000. All fantastic mixes, arguably more interesting than anything played by a "proper" DJ on the show. It's great to get a rare chance to hear how these guys would operate in a different medium, and deliver sets that you can't hear them play in a club on any given weekend. |
I liked the Dave Clarke EM where he included a Nick Drake track. |

In the intro to this mix Babicz himself says it's a live set. Why is everyone speculating?
Has anyone actually listened to this? :wtf: |

Yup, that's what I thought it'd be as well, as Babicz has never been much of a DJ, but has been doing live PAs for almost a decade.
It's too bad I simply lost interest in his work after he ditched analog fully, as this EM would be interesting to hear otherwise. |

Anyone got times for the the track list? The track around 40 min is absolutely smashing. Anyone know which on it is? :eyespop:
Edit: Nevermind, it's Vibrating Heart Toy. I definitely need to buy this when it's available! |
