In high school, I was a jock and a nerd.

Rare breed, I know, but a breed that goes best with crackers and pâté.

Lira you might appreciate this high school tale of woe. I had a crush on this girl next to me in Spanish class so I finally got up enough nerve to ask her out to the prom. I passed her a note written in Spanish. I got shot down and my heart crushed, I guess she had a bf. Huh some excuse dumb bitch.

I had a decent time in High School. I moved to a whole new area after 8th grade, so I had to make friends from scratch. Actually didn't do too bad. Ended up befriending and knowing a lot of people from a bunch of different cliques, but I never partied with the cool kids so I never quite earned cool kid status.

I think one of my most memorable times was during Senior year when I acted in this play. I ended up mooning the whole audience while playing it off as if it was an accident (It wasn't), said a bunch of lines, then cartwheeled off the stage. It was a Shakespeare play no less, and luckily I didn't end up getting suspended or anything like that.

I also remember wasting my time taking those stupid Golden State Exam tests. It was something Gov Gray Davis had proposed, that if you passed 6 of them you'd become a GSE Scholar and would readily be accepted by any UC in the state. Well, turns out the UC's rejected it, and all the good it did me was earn a little gold sticker on my diploma. And then 3 years later Davis got recalled and replaced by an Austrian celebrity, and that was the end of that.

Actually I had long platinum blonde curls in HS. :) They called me fluffles cause it was so fluffy! In 9th grade it grew down to my shoulders! Damn that was bad ass.

I was an anime/video game geek covered in acne. I worked at a go cart track/arcade just because they had Dance Dance Revolution and I got to play for free on my days off. I also drove around blasting trance CDs with the windows down which wasn't exactly cool back then (1998-2002 were my high school days).

The best part was the exchange student trip I took to Japan. This isn't to say high school wasn't fun, it was and I had great friends who are still my best friends today. I knew a lot of people, because my graduating class was actually pretty geek-friendly (surprising for suburban Atlanta. Even the jocks played video games and talked to "regular" kids). It's not really something I'd like to go BACK to, though.

I didn't start drinking until I was 19-20, so the most "rebellious" thing I did in high school was drag race friends in this warehouse area near where I lived. I had a 98 Tacoma V6 pickup, and because of the torque I would stomp every tricked-out Civic I went up against since we didn't have a full 1/4-mile to use. :P

tl;dr: It was fun and all, but life since then has been a HELL of a lot better.

Life is neither better nor worse, it's different. I don't really see a point to framing how good life is in that way. Two totally different stages of growth and development.
