| yeah it definitely felt a little like "throwing him under the bus" when he kept mentioning that crap over and over "i had to let paul play after me, it's in the contract" etc. who gives a about that, not very professional... |

Downloading now, but from the comments so far, this reminds me of his Orange Hours Queensday mix in 2004, where he just came out of nowhere with an incredible set full of tracks that remained as ID's for a long period of time.
By the way, this essentially looks to be the complete tracklisting:
01. Paul Oakenfold - Tokyo
02. Day Din & Alfredo Garcia - Theory of Mind
03. Day Din - A Place to Be Real
04. Gerry Cueto - Message (PvD Rework)
05. Richard Durand - Dryland (Phynn Remix)
06. DJ's United - Remember Love (Unknown Remix)
07. ID
08. Man With No Name - Floor Essence (Unknown Remix)
09. Anton Firtich pres. AF Project – Something Wrong
10. PPK - Resurection vs. Neelix - Ask The Right Questions (Dirtyloud Remix)
11. Neelix - Expect What
12. Normalize - Run (Day Din Remix)
13. Beat Service feat. Emma Lock - Cut And Run
14. Solarstone – Seven Cities (Unknown Remix)
15. DJ Ton TB - Electronic Malfunction |
Interesting...I will take a listen, some unknown tracks. :eyes:
EDIT: Just heard the set and i have to say it was a good one, prob the best set of the entire event (from all weeks so far). |

| Great set. I thought it was really annoying for Armin to interrupt every few minutes, and very disrespectful to say he was contractually obligated to have Oakie on after him and repeatedly saying "Don't worry, Gareth Emery is up soon". All the interruptions made it almost unlistenable to me. |

thats terrible. basically means that armin has no faith in his audience to listen to anything but the most lame/saccherine/commerical/formulaic armada poo.
he thinks his own audience is stupid. haha. |

Isn't he right? I don't mean to take shots against ASOT fans... but if the vast majority of his fans love the cheese he's currently spinning, it makes sense to assume that they wouldn't be too into Oakenfold's current sound.
Obviously there are going to be a TON of exceptions with the number of fans he has, but I have no doubt in my mind that if he set up a poll for the best set, Gareth, A&B, Arty, Mat Zo, Arnej and the rest of the guys getting constant radio play on ASOT would finish ahead of someone like Oakie, regardless of how great his set was. |

i gues he is right - stupid or young.
the stupid will turn it off (armin would not like this). the young may actually dig it and start looking elsewhere for tunes (once again not armadas ideal outcome)
but hey its armin and his crew that wants to own the world of trance. They bought a big piece of that world in Paul Oakenfold. And now it looks like it doesnt seemto fit in with the @#trancefamily's idea of what its all about.
i just hope askew and oakenfold keep up with the testicular fortitude and continue trying something slightly different (yes its still commercial and nowhere near groundbreaking BUT it is something different for the masses to latch onto)
we reap what we sow mr van buuren. |

And ya, it was MIGHTILY gay how Armin had to mention over and over again that Emery's set was coming afterwards.

Oh buddy this sounds hilarious. I'm going to download this set just to hear this. Common, you have to admit this is kind of funny? Immature yes, but funny nonetheless. You have to understand amongst DJs, it is mostly a schoolyard fight. What likely happened is that Armin started sweating because he felt that Oakenfold was surpassing him, possibly even all of them on the line-up. That said, don't get too excited Oakenfold, your still somewhat of a cheese puff. You still have many years to catch up to me :)
I've never heard Armin before, but i'll check this out because this sounds hilarious. I love hearing about these kinds of games...it's hilarious. |

This well might be the only place on earth that thinks Armin Van Buuren has some sort of evil plan to turn the trance scene into a cookie cutter cheese fest. In fact Armin was one of the few on the night that actually played trance that is still in common with the sound hes had since he began djing and folk need to remember on this forum that they themselves liked that sound even for a short period.
If anything Armin looked decidedly purring over the prospect of having Oakenfold on the line up and it looks like Oakey has decided after years of commercial whoring himself that it might be time to show folk what his version of trance sounds like but updated.
Armin saying over the set that Emery's would come soon is obviously in acknowledgement that the commercial listener would have wanted to hear Emery and not Oakenfold. Especially considering Oakenfold hasnt really played any sort of set that is mainly trance in years. You dont want to turn off half your auidence because of that.
Its a shame the two channels that were supposid to run simoultaniously did not do so that well on the night hence that situation ended up happening.
I was at the event myself and didnt see Oakey as I wanted to see Armin (call me a cheesemonger all you want) who played well but not really at his best. Markus did show him up and was the best on the night but Armin wasnt far behind him. It was a brilliant event and while it was full of "trancefamily" dweebs there was a hell of a lot of good people there too who wernt there to just hump the DJ and film the whole ing thing. I think there are too many on here that are quick to dismiss this part of the crowd and what they are there for.
Oakeys set sounds very good and I welcome this change if its to be indeed a permenant one. It would almost convince me to go see him one more time. But consdering last time I saw him he played half really ty cheesy music along with PPK - Resurrection im hardly convinced at the moment. So lets all wait and see. |

There's a difference between quality melodies and vocals and cheesey "let's throw them in there" because it's what people want (and not bothering to REALLY produce a proper tune).
AvB used to be very good, he'd combine proggy/vocal melodic stuff, then driving trance, then full on amazing synths, remixes etc etc. Like most, not anymore. Now it's all ty vocals and 'tech trance' which has been completely bastardized. When I used to hear tech trance it was Marco V or Mauro Picotto as of 2002/2003 and before. Not anymore...meh.
Glad Oakey and Markus are upping their sets and not doing the same old. I'll see how Markus plays up here myself on Saturday. Hopefully he rocks it.
Also, what's with djs trying to please the crowd in the way you guys were saying? It's just childish. It's like they don't have faith in their audience anymore. No experimenting with the music that got them popular, it's just 'stick with what works'. I wish they'd stop doing that...
I saw Max Graham up here a year ago at a club that regularly plays house, techno, tech house, tribal etc etc. It's what I was expecting because when I first started to see him he played 8 hour sets of a veriety of everything including breaks. He ended up dropping one of the best TRANCE sets I've heard in YEARS. I was totally floored. We need MORE djs to do like that. ;) |

To me it was CLEAR evidence of Armin preferring to whore Emery and his sound, which is obv much closer to his own than Fluoro is. |
Have you heard Armin's sets from the ASOT500 shows? They're not the cheese that you'd expect from him. Armin's set was nothing like Emery's when I saw them at Ultra. |
