Cancun Airport Scam!

Has anyone else who has traveled through Cancun Airport feel like it's a total scam??? LOL! I went down to Playa del Carmen last week with Sarah, checked in 3kg's underweight, and then when we check our bags out yesterday morning we end up being 3kg's overweight?? (ie. we had somehow accumulated 6kg's extra of stuff?? :whip: :whip:
Just a beware to anyone traveling down south, maybe just Cancun airport, but their bag weigh-in scales are overscaled and will read higher than what it really is!! It's such a ing cash grab!!
They don't have a country exit fee like Cuba does ($20 or $30USD) so they try to make their money other ways! 20kg's is the limit per bag and for every 1kg you go over is $20USD extra. So 3kg's x 2 people = $120USD.
I was so furious at the time because I KNEW all I brought back with me was:
-a tribal mask
-Mayan calander
-bottle of Shiraz
-6 pack of Boehemian beer
Everyone around me seemed to have the same problem but were suckers and paid. I wasn't going ing give them my money. We exited the line we just waited 30min in and went to the back lobby and opened our luggage's. I tossed the 6-pack out in the garbage :( and shoved 2 pairs of shoes in my carry-on.
Weighed in 0.2kg under and my carry on was the same!! JUST bit the bullet. I definitely gave them my opinion on their flawed system and I knew the look in their faces after that I was right.
Oh and two meals from Burger King costs $20 and a bag of Dorritos costs $10 :eyes:
I think I'm more pissed about the weather I came back to though!

750 ml of wine = .75 kg
1 wine bottle = .5 kg
6 pack beer = 2 kg
That is 3.25 kg. |

I was 16.5kg at Pearson and then 23.0kg in Cancun, the difference is roughly 6.5kg because I was weighed in at 3kg over 20kg.
1x bottle of wine = .75kg
mask = .5kg
6-pack = 2kg
That is 3.25kg and should bring me just under 20kg but instead it rang in as 3.75kg over what it should've been. That's ~8lbs of unaccounted weight that I did not have! |

| Coming back from Cabo, we were 4kgs over, and were not about to pay 80 bucks, so we also got out of the line and threw out a bunch of stuff. When we go back to the scale, sme ing weight! We argued a bit and then the attendants talked a bit and ended up weighing the 2 bags sepparately and they weighed in at exactly 20kg each, whicj is the limit. Such a scam. |

You're not including the weight of the bottle. Wine bottles vary from .5 to 1.25 kg. |

The weight issues have nothing to do with the airport...they are all airline specific.
Don't forget wet clothes as well as the booze. |

| don't forget the extra moisture that is in the clothing. |

Had the same issue coming back from Dominican of being over with not much being brought back. Definately damp clothes played a big factor with the weight because our room we had was very humid and the clothes were very damp. Still a rip off though.
Leaving Glasgow has been really bad each time I have left there as well. |

$30. Wouldn't it be just the same to pay the extra money at the airport? |

i ve been there 8 times i think, and it happened to me once.
What I did is bring plastic bags just in case, and stuffed clothes i took out of my bag until it made the legit weight.
I then carried that bag with me in the overhead compartiment.
that, not paying extra for weight. lool |
