I'm pretty sure one space is the accepted format now...

I do agree with this thread though. I think the MSN/texting/twitter shortforms have led people to become lazy with their writing, and in my experience most people simply don't care if they use improper grammar while speaking. I used to correct people, now I'm too lazy to do that 99% of the time... not my responsibility to fix anyone's English.

I see a lot of mistakes. I make some too. But I can't let the loose thing go. It's just too stupid and too common.

I short hand most of my sms, but when it comes to writing papers or what not, I would write properly. Plus when it comes to posting on forums, for me it all depends where you're posting. For me I don't really care what I write on here, seeing it is a music forum :p

you'd be amazed how many young ones today would spell really rly regardless of the forum.

There is still some debate on the issue. Personally, I don't care when its general typing someone is doing but when you are doing professional letters I think you should still use the double space.

Dude are you denying this epidemic???

He's absolutely right!!!

I'm too busy writing to my councillor to gripe about those damned high school kids who won't give up their seats to the elderly on the bus and who are always listening to that loud hippity-hop music on their cell phones.

That, and there was too much snow last winter - they should be able to do something about that.

You want to know what's wrong with the youth of today? Turns out it's largely their parents, and their parents' parents. Here, watch this, if your attention span will allow it:

Lack of funding thanks to some of your favourite politicians.

Loose/Lose misspelling has been a huge pet peeve of mine for a while. However, the most common spelling error I see is their/there/they're. Makes me want to scream at my monitor.

Don't forget about the youth standing in front of metro doors. Not sure if it happens in Toronto, it happens a lot in Montreal. I had to push through a few of them and after they gave me attitude. I would have loved to snap the kids necks.

for some reason I developed a problem with "then" and "than" - no idea why :sadgreen:

Actually, you don't. The 6th edition of APA writing rules only calls for one space.

What does the AAA, ASA, CSE, Chicago, MLA, and Turabian style manuals say?
