For hotels, Hotwire is good. And Expedia now has a section for "unpublished rates" similar to Hotwire.

I find Expedia good in general. Their rates are comparable to other companies and it's a reputable company.

Some others:

-red flag deals
-air transat vacations
-nolitours
-sunquest
-kayak
-holasun tour
-westjet

I like Trip Advisor cause it searches multiple discount websites at the same time.

^^ 100000% agreed on TripAdvisor! ALWAYS check reviews on there before booking a Hotel!!

Kayak.com is good to do a bunch of flight searches and set email alerts for when prices drop for certain flights on certain dates. It carries most airlines however depending on where you're going, certain discount airlines do not show up in these searches (RyanAir / Easyjet / etc.) so you'll have to go to them individually (though there are some 'discount airline search engines' but I can't remember them right now)

Hotwire/Priceline for hotels - use betterbidding.com forums to help you figure out what each hotel is based on amenities/star ratings/etc.

Lisa listed some good sites as well -- especially airlines that have charters, you can grab a steal. For example, I'm going to Belgium in July but a return flight, excluding hotel costs, would cost me just as much as taking a charter from Toronto->Amsterdam, staying a few days, taking a train to belgium, staying the weekend, then flying to Portugal and staying a week or two and flying out of Lisbon on the same charter airline (Air Transat) = score!

bookit.com often has crazy discounts on hotels/vacations... they have sales ALL THE TIME and you can get lucky.

Hotels.com/Hotels.ca is useful for their 'WelcomeRewards' program - book 10 nights get 1 night free -- but if you use discount codes/coupons you bookings aren't eligible for the reward... Discount codes aren't the easiest to come by but some google searches/twitter can turn up stuff

Oh and I'm an Expedia affiliate so here u go :D

DEFINITELY check the reviews on hotels before you book. I usually just google to find reviews b/c it'll come up with other review websites as well, but Trip Advisor is one of the best.

Never heard of Bookit or Better Bidding. Thanks Del

OR talk to a travel agent like myself who knows how to get the best deals and has access to industry tools that arent available to the general public ;)

Also if something goes wrong you have a phone number to call instead of hoping that someone will answer an email eventually.

I'm surprised no one mentioning orbitz.com
