Dear CORe,

I've just received a strange book in the mail. Hardcover. Brand new. Trilingual (Japanese, English, and French). I've never ordered it. I don't even care about its content. Therefore, I can't have given them my full name (which they know) because I only use it in official documents or even the address of my office, because I don't even work here (I just study in an empty room of an old Japanese language school). Yet, I now have in my hands a copy of "Satsuma Spirits", by the Society of Satsuma Samurai Spirits. Now:
  • What sorcery is this?!
  • How do they know my full name and where I study?
  • Why do they reckon I want a book about something like that!? Mind you, even when I visited Japan, I avoided traditional places like the plague (having just seen a temple in Nara because a mate wanted to go there before returning to Brazil)
  • Is it a conspiracy? Is it spam? Is it a conspamracy!?
Help me, oh COR!
Also, Brits say I sound English while Lews and Jenny say I sound South African. What do you think? :p

It sounds like you've signed up to the Above & Beyond newsletter!

On a more serious note, you sound genuinly worried and 'afraid' :stongue:

But I can't help you Marcus, not yet :p

Their site doesn't seem to load for me :conf:

Do you speak French? If they sent you a book in 3 languages, all of which you are competent in, then it seems like they know a bit about you :p

I think you should join. Just run with it and see where it takes you. Maybe you'll find yourself involved in some sort of surreal Murakamian conspiracy.

Well, obviously, the only way to find out is to read that book. Then report back here.

publishers get your name off university course rosters and send you books in the hopes that you'll assign the book in your classes. end-of-the-semester [apr/may and nov/dec] is when the mailbox gets packed w books.

Sounds like they are recruiting you to become a ninja. It's not like you can just apply for that job, they find you. The ninja test is likely to follow. I failed the test at the last stage and I'd let you know what to expect except I'm sure they change it for each person. My only bit of advice I can give is "be water my friend, be water."

Only japanese people can become tr00 nijas...so obviously his fiance is a ninja...or kunoichi if you want to be pedantic. Why do you think shes been in japan for the last year...pretty intensive training of course!

Such fearfull assasin team those two will be when she finaly finishes ninja scool and returns to him. With his pen mightier than a sword, and special linguist powers Marcus will wear down their poor mark, while his fiance swoops fron the shadow to deliver a lethal blow.
