Her vocal chords sound like those that have been abused by years of semen intake.
And I'm keen on that. |

I can't stand when ghetto losers use a dumb ass nonsense phrase like "laffy taffy" or "chicken head", mix it with cheap sounding bass and beats, and make it into a song where they just keep repeating the same phrase and somehow make millions of dollars off that. Laffy taffy!? Tootsie Roll!? Are you ing kidding me?

That's just because they're black :p |

Yes, I just started listening to music yesterday. No, man, I just see a lot less talent these days, via Rebecca Black, Ke$ha, and the Black Eyed Peas. I simply find it ludicrous that these artists are so popular when their talent level is so low. I'm not saying that this is a new concept, or that these people should be burned at the stake. It's just a strange phenomenon to me that so many people like garbage music. |
You're approaching it from the wrong angle though. Take into account that they are not artists but instead they are a product. And all those products are verrrry astute at being products and brand marketing. |

| But Rebecca Black is popular for being a bad singer. So it isn't like people are ignorant of her lack of skill or something. |

stop acting like you're from toronto. mtl =/= world :p |
her show as been sold out in vegas since its inception and is the biggest money maker in terms of vegas acts. The rare occasion when she does a show outside of MTL or Vegas, they are sold out in minutes. If she came to Toronto it would be the same.
If we want to base this on something else, we could go the album sale route? The mainstream awards and accolades? Celine is a mainstream artist. She just happens to be older and appeal to a different demographic than the other acts i posted.

evidntly you never heard of a little song called Papa Don't Preach. :p |
you mean that song she didn't write? papa don't preach is a great example because it is disposable pop...don't try and tell me she sings like etta james now.
Madonna is a smart woman that capitalized on every fad quickly, and has a great marketing team/angle. She is a studio artist, and live you see this right away. Give a marginally talented vocalist a writer, a composer, and lots of studio time you can make a track that sounds better than what the artist can actually do live.
When she was at her peak, the controversies always were talked about more than her music. You think she made jesus black in that video to make a social commentary? that, bad press sells records too.

LOL I'm probably gonna get flayed alive for this. I was a fan of Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, Green Day, Rancid, and other various ska/punk-ish bands. But by the same token, I also loved trance. So I guess I'm just a sheep like the rest of them :o |

lol... dude I was joking. I am in agreement with you that Madonna is vocally a marginal talent at best. |

No, because as teenagers we generally have horrible taste in music due to our underdeveloped minds being so easily influenced by what we think is the cool thing to listen to and not what we think the best. Why do you think Hollywood and big music target the most easily influenced? For the same reasons the tobacco industry did. ;)
This is a generalization of course, but one i think can fit more of us than not. Many times at that age we are so obsessed at fitting in or being accepted by our peers that we don't actually develop a solid identity until later. The same thing i think can be applied to our "musical" identity. |

lady gaga seems to be able sing pretty good, maybe not live but jamming in studio. when shes not drugged out on E or what the hell gay love drugs shes on. |
the drug is called "controversy". The gaga alter ego is brilliant marketing. I saw her 2 weeks ago, and she is definitely a well trained vocalist with a very big range. She will get credit for that once she ages and the voice is all she has left. |
