Aria Afterhours and Trance Scene

Hello Montreal TranceAddict! Long lurker new poster. nothing new. I just had a question that I've been dying to get off my chest so hopefully you all can help me.

If anyone is into the Trance scene particularly which I assume there might be. Can they tell me what ever happened to Aria Afterhours? I've read that it was a legendary place with some long sets (13hrs) not out of the question. My question is how is the scene nowadays after Aria closed then when it was still open? Is the Trance still pumping with world class bookings and same passion from the people? It seems that on this site and other online sites many people are pessimistic about it saying many afterhours have closed down and the remaining are just booking generic artists attracting a different type of crowd. Did the Trance scene just go underground (if so how do you find it) or did it die/dying?
As someone from somewhere in Ontario where this scene is not as great and hopeful to relocate to your fine city one day, is the trance scene still what it was from early/mid 2000s?

Here's an example of what I mean:

And yes lol I got inspired to ask this after seeing these videos.

Trance in Montreal is alive and well my friend. Not that I'm into it or anything.

Of course, Trance ing sucks. It really, really sucks today. Like really really bad. 17 year olds who only listened to their first "trance" track last year might think it's the greatest thing ever, but to someone who has listened to trance since 1996, well it's a joke.

Anyway, if you do at all take an interest in trance today then there's the massives and Circus, which does a really good service to the fans. And they don't only bring the cheese, they also take care to book really solid trance acts like John 00 Flemming, Christopher Lawrence and John Askew.

Haha I agree, though I must admit I did start out as one of those 17year old kids back in 2008ish though i was 20 or 21 or something. From Basshunter to Armin Fan Boy to the core lol and though I still like him (his older stuff especially) I've definitely moved on and been exploring old school stuff and well i'm hooked and I can't see myself going back to modern 'trance' though its good in doses.

Good to know the scene is still alive :) Gives me more of a reason to work hard and move the hell out of here. Btw is there an underground trance scene? Doesn't have to be international stars but something that promotes local djs who play good old trance into the wee hours of the morning.

There is, but it is centered mainly on psy and goa trance.

Ah I see. Damnit :(
so I take it that trance is then found basically at stereo and circus and redlite?

edit; not that i got anything against goa/psytrance. its cool i guess but not the same feeling.

Circus and Redlite. Not Stereo.

I advise you to check out some progressive house btw.

Thanks for your input.

Any specific suggestions artist wise/track wise? Is that what you like or is that just a bigger scene?

I dont believe that for a 1 sec. It doesn't suck today. It just morphed into something so different that you cant understand it anymore. It the same thing as people listening to rock/pop in the 80's, then the 90's came out with grunge and alternative and people were like wow i cant relate to this so it must suck. Music will keep evolving its not to say it sucks but its just changed so much that you so called "elitists" dont think it embodies what made you fall in love with it in the first place. I dont love all the trance out there today but lots of the music is produced better with crazy amounts of new sounds and ideas that trump 90's trance and i think thats a good thing for any type of music to keep going.

I've been several times to ARIA when a was a bit younger. I was not the one who used to go to after hours a lot. Many people on the MTL forum have been to ARIA much more time than me. I have yet to find an after hour that moves me like ARIA did. Even though Circus, RedLite and Stereo (not anymore) brings big Trance name DJs, the vibe isn't the same as ARIA was. No offense to the people working at Circus and other after hours :)

As previous posters said, Trance is still present in Montreal, but it has never been the biggest scene I think. In the last years, it has grows in Montreal however. Circus and RedLite are the 2 after hours to look for when you want to hear Trance. However, there is not always Trance each nights. Bal en Blanc and Black and Blue are 2 yearly events with massive Trance DJs names, at least it has been the case for the last years. Bal en Blanc is in April/March while Black and Blue is usually in October if I'm not mistaken.

Welcome to the forums :)

You're ing funny dude, real ing funny. Your statement is so utterly ridiculous that I don't even know where to start in terms of responding to it! You're right, it did morph into something different - commercial dog .
