Thanks for your input.
Any specific suggestions artist wise/track wise? Is that what you like or is that just a bigger scene? |
I'm not going to bother listing a bunch of artists, but bookings in this vain that are coming up include John Digweed, Dave Seaman and others that I can't speak of just yet. If you want to hit me up with a PM I'll gladly provide some references to stuff you might like. |

I dont believe that for a 1 sec. It doesn't suck today. It just morphed into something so different that you cant understand it anymore. It the same thing as people listening to rock/pop in the 80's, then the 90's came out with grunge and alternative and people were like wow i cant relate to this so it must suck. Music will keep evolving its not to say it sucks but its just changed so much that you so called "elitists" dont think it embodies what made you fall in love with it in the first place. I dont love all the trance out there today but lots of the music is produced better with crazy amounts of new sounds and ideas that trump 90's trance and i think thats a good thing for any type of music to keep going. |
if it is so awesome, then why do most trance djs play sets made up of tracks from 5+ years ago? |

it's So nice to see people not flame a new poster for asking a simple question |
Good point haha. I didn't even realize that. Maybe all the haters haven't recovered from the weekend or maybe you are guys are much nicer :D

I've been several times to ARIA when a was a bit younger. I was not the one who used to go to after hours a lot. Many people on the MTL forum have been to ARIA much more time than me. I have yet to find an after hour that moves me like ARIA did. Even though Circus, RedLite and Stereo (not anymore) brings big Trance name DJs, the vibe isn't the same as ARIA was. No offense to the people working at Circus and other after hours :)
As previous posters said, Trance is still present in Montreal, but it has never been the biggest scene I think. In the last years, it has grows in Montreal however. Circus and RedLite are the 2 after hours to look for when you want to hear Trance. However, there is not always Trance each nights. Bal en Blanc and Black and Blue are 2 yearly events with massive Trance DJs names, at least it has been the case for the last years. Bal en Blanc is in April/March while Black and Blue is usually in October if I'm not mistaken.
Welcome to the forums :) |
First off, thanks for your input and welcoming me instead of flaming :)
Yeah that's what it seems to me. I've been lately checking out some videos of the sets at Aria compared to those at those 3 afterhours still present and I can sense a different vibe from Aria just sitting behind a chair so in real life it must have been even greater.
Yeah I have been kind of keeping up the sites of those afterhours to see their schedules and assuming you can mix and match clubs it seems you might be lucky to get good trance weekends at least 2-3weeks a month.
I've heard of Bal en Blanc but never Black and Blue.. Hmm time to start googling :)
I've also heard of Igloofest, though I think it's not trance being out in -30 raving to electronic music would be an experience in itself I imagine. Hopefully I can make it next year to it or maybe even Black and Blue.
Just an offshoot, do you think Aria or some other new club will ever open again to rival it in the future? |

It's funny cause I used to trance hate like 1-2 years ago, but now I just don't care.... No point in bashing noise for being noise... |

I advise you to check out some progressive house btw. |
Please god no. Progressive house is like the escape genre of garbage trance. I'd suggest getting into Techtrance or more psytrance if you're looking for that early 2000 vibe.
Aria is the only place (with Sona maybe, sometimes) that had that 'big event' feel to it. Todays afterhours just look like big night clubs and don't have the dark setup afterhours had 10 years ago. It's all so bright now :( |

And when I wrote progressive house, could you give me some examples of what you think I was referring to? |
