Hang on, why when the bible is set in the Middle East is it going to happen at 6pm in New York? Do we even know that's the correct timezone? Could be Pacific. Or GMT for that matter.
And even then, when it's 6pm in New York it's already the 22nd of May here. What happens to us?

Actually, there will be as many earthquakes as there are time zones. The moment the first time zone reaches 6:00 PM tomorrow, an earthquake is going to shake that time zone - and that time zone only. Then, when it turns 6:00 PM in the next time zone (it'll be 7:00 in the previous one), yet another massive earthquake will occur. So, by the time the quakewave reaches NYC, the whole Old World and Australia will already be destroyed.
The funny thing about it is that a gigantic earthquake in the time zones prior to reaching New York will cause a tsunami so strong that, whether or not you're saved, you're most likely going to get killed by the mother of all 'namis.
Also, why do the saved ones believe they'll ascend to Heaven instead of just being transported to another dimension? We know the universe quite well to know that, if someone goes up, they'll just find out what it is like to be in orbit.
