Fri Nite: Paul Van Dyk @ Bleu
awesome set... dropped tons of classics and played some of his newer stuff...
walking in... you have Anthony Attalla playing House... you are opening for a Trance DJ... WTF?
the new Bleu is starting to wear on me... its really a place to be seen... i mean $1000+ for a VIP booth by the DJ???

Sat:
very awesome of Paxahau of letting us pick up our weekend passes on Fri... i was glad i didnt have to wait in that line to get them Sat...
got to DEMF about 4... had to go check out some GhettoTech... watched DJ Godfather tear it up... haha!
went over to Beatport after and hung out...
Pizza Papalis about 6ish for dinner... being from Detroit, its really the 1 time of the year i do the whole tourist, eat Pizza @ Greektown...
after some pre-drinking... came back to watch Felix Da Housecat... wat a great set! the whole place was enjoying it!
went to check out Hawtin @ Beatport for a bit... nothing amazing... went back to Main Stage and enjoyed the rest of Felix's banging set!

Sat Nite: NightSneak party w/ Roni Size, Umek & Dave Clarke
walk it around 1 to no line which is a change... haha...
Roni's MC is on the mic the entire time... garbage... total buzzkill... hated it! after that, anyone would have been great!
Umek comes on... doesnt seen like he was into it... then some hooker gets on stage and spills her drink all over near Umek...
Umek was pissed... and his set was disappointing... big letdown considering the hype surrounding his appearance...
Dave Clarke comes on and KILLS it! def best set of the nite... just banger after banger... def glad we didnt leave after Umek...
took off after 530 after that assault on my ears... haha!
cabbie was cool... even asked us how Umek was...

Sun:
come down a lil before 4 to check out Pulshar and then Livio & Roby @ Beatport... Pulshar wasnt on, and 430... then 5... no Livio & Roby...
WTF? some girl was on the decks... didnt recognize her... huge bummer!
hit up Five Guys for some burgers and back to Main Stage for Ricardo Villabolos...
the hype around Ricardo is exaggerated... his set was boring and he was putting me to sleep...
Sven Vath... wow! guy was great... awesome tracks... def made up for Ricardo... and his videos in the back... haha... i couldnt keep my eyes away!
back to the room for pre-drinking and off to the boat...

Sun Nite: I'm On A Boat 3 w/ Sven Vath, Ricardo Villabolos, Loco Dice vs Stacey Pullen
take in the city and the water hanging out on the top deck...
boat takes off... we go hit floor 2 for Sven... he must have been burned out or something cuz his set was dull...
Sven ripped it up earlier on Main Stage but i couldnt get into his set on the boat... decided to skip Ricardo all together on the boat too...
floor 1 has Loco Dice destroying the place w/ Stacey... him & Luciano was awesome 2 years... shoulda just came down to Loco Dice to begin w/
banging it out... was there for a good few hrs... finally left at 430 for some much needed sleep!

Mon:
too damn hot! decided to skip DEMF and get an early dinner...
Slows @ 4... food is great as always but it was hotter than Hades in there! AC anyone???
got the DEMF at 7 to claim our spots for the next 5 hrs...
Dubfire was good... not great, must have been holding back for his afterparty...
Green Velvet... awesome! seeing "Flash" live... wow!
Fatboy Slim... wow... a once in a lifetime opportunity to see him and he did not disappoint!
i doubt he will be playing Detroit again... as Norman does not tour... from using samples of the Supremes to playing Eye of the Tiger...
his whole set was banging!
for the techno purists... if you skipped just cause... you missed one hell of a show!!!

no Mon parties for me... thank you Paxahau for another awesome DEMF!!!

my top 5 sets of DEMF...
Fatboy Slim
Loco Dice vs Stacey Pullen
Sven Vath
Felix Da Housecat
Dave Clarke

Good start, keep 'em coming! Unable to attend this year, I was only able to catch some of the live streams off RA. Even though I haven't been a fan for ages, the Fatoby Slim set did indeed sound like it was going off. Also caught quality output from Ben Klock, Terrence Parker, DJ 3000 and DJ T-1000, who was banging out the classics. The set I was most looking forward to catching was a big disappointment - Claude Young was either having an off night, or time simply hasn't been kind to his DJing skills. I'm leaning more toward the latter of the two.

Exactly why I CANNOT wait to see Fatboy Slim @ The Koolhaus.

Might just be set of the year!

It really sucks when a DJ you've been looking forward to seeing for a long time ends up delivering a dud of a set.

exactly... complete garbage...

the feeling is the same on Dluv...

Underwhelming...aka Minimal is So Over:
Anything "minimal".
Ricardo Villalobos : Bah. We waited for this? I realize it was raining, but a sloppy underperformed, uninspired, technically-flawed set this man played on the Main Stage Sunday after incredible build-up. His whole genre tanked this weekend, in my opinion: to whit...did anyone care what Hawtin did all weekend? Because I certainly did not. Richie's (No) Control 4 was perhaps the biggest scam of a non-event in festival weekend after-party history, the Beatport stage, while packed, was boring in comparsion to the excitment at Red Bull, Torino, Read Detroit, and the Vitiamin Water, and the genre seemed so tapped out that the only performer that really shined from that school didn't even play at Beatport or the genre, and that would be Sven Vath, who surprised me at the Main stage as playing surprising lively, involved, and smooth hard tech that banged....and was not minimal.

The only good thing about Villalobos was his set sent me over to the Red Bull, where I caught the far superior, but to me, dark horses, of Soul Clap, Eliot Lipp, and the first part of Beardymann.

the complex will be split for two events: all ages and 19+. they will be separate events.

koolhaus and orange room will be all ages. guvernment, gallery, the drink and skybar will be 19+. i really doubt fatboy slim will be in the koolhaus since he is listed as playing the 19+ event.

ok, what can I say? DEMF rocked!!!!!!

SAT:
We got into Detroit sat evening around 6-ish. Despite the long lineup, we got inside fairly quickly, just as it started raining. Went to see Gaiser at Beatport stage. WHAT A SET!!! AMAZING! Marc Houle came after that. While he slightly brought down the energy from Gaiser's set, he didn't disappoint once again. Richie came on after Marc, and finished off the party with a bang.
After that, headed to the CLR afterparty. Chris Liebing was just giving no mercy. Him and Speedy J destroyed the dancefloor upstairs. Downstairs was Marcel Dettman vs Radio Slave, but couldn't stay there for long, as it was intensely hot!

SUN:
Went on an interesting tour of Detroit Sun afternoon. The city definitelly has history, and it was very insightful to check out the unique architecture that is a rarity in North America. It is quite sad that amazing and prominent buildings and skyscrapers are left to rot and decay, or turned into some parking garages.
Sun evening, hit up the festy. As I walked in, Ricardo Villabull was playing at the Vitamine Water stage. At first I thought I was the crazy one, as it seemed to me that the sound was completely distorted. Soon I understood that it clearly wasn't me. Our dear good friend Villaup managed to redline his entire set. Apparently the sound guy was repeatedly asking Ricardo to bring down the volume, to which he got nothing but attitude back from the master dj himself. After standing there for 5 mins, went to the Movement Stage to catch Ben Klock. Now that guy was simply AMAZING! The energy that he delivered in his set was intense and it was simply impossible for me to stop dancing. After Ben, Marcel Dettman came on. Went upstairs to check out Sven, but he didn't really do it for me. Went to try and catch Beardyman, but the Redbull stage was totally packed. Went back to Beatport Stage and caught some Martin Buttrich (was actually really good from what I caught) and then some Carl Craig at the Vitamin Water stage (nothing outstanding, but overall good set).
Decided to keep things abit quiet that night, and hit up friend's houseparty with our newly-found German friends.

MON:
Woke up fairly early to hit up the Old Miami party. On the way to Old Miami, experienced an interesting taxi ride with "jack-of-all-trades" cabbie. Not only he sells water and soft drinks in the back of his cab, he also offered us some weed.
As we got to Old Miami, we encountered a very long and slow-moving line. Eventually got inside, and started to enjoy the amazing sunshine and good vibes. DJs played quite good (not too sure who exactly was playing at this event), the drink selection at the bar was quite decent, and people were cool and friendly. Overall, good pre/after party.
Hit up the festy in the evening. Got just in time to hear Art Dept, which didn't quite do it for me, to be honest. The music was good perhaps, but not really my cup of tea. Went to see Dubfire instead, but after 30 mins or so he became somewhat boring. Hit up the Beatport Stage again, just in time for Victor Calderon, who surprisingly played an amazing darker - edgier Techno set. Adam Beyer came on after Victor to finish off the festival with a bang! Now that was intense!!
Afterparty-wise, we hit up the Hot Natured party with Lee Foss and Magda. Good music and interesting attire!

SUMMARY:
Got some amazing music fix, danced my shoes off, met some new friends, met some friends I haven't seen in ages.......Let's do it again next year!!!
