Are u proposing this cos of ease of beatmatching with software and Mp3 ?
just thought i would ask as there is on the market a huge amount of decks and mixers with built in BPM counters.

Neo, im aware of BPM counters on mixers but what im sayin is..
Programs can take the bpm from one tune and compare it to the other, then it matches the pitch. It also matches the pitch to like 3 decimal places!!
They also have an unfair advantage of getting all the latest tracks that arent available on 12"
and its abit of a raw deal IMO when Hardware dj's have spent loads of
A. Money
B. Time
to get as good as they are, and then to be beaten by some1 who just clicks a button and BPM's are matched.

| I don't think thats fair at all...I used VTT, which doesn't use any auto beat matching equipment...the reason I used mp3 instead of decks was the fact I have a e mixer...and I don't have access to enough vinyl to build a good enough set (altho I just spent £100 at chemical :p). Anyway didn't luke use mp3?? :D |

| i laos proposed an outlawwing of mp3 dj's because lets face it its piss to mix with mp3 compared to vinyl and it is offensive IMO to vinyl dj's when they lose to mp3 dj's and most peopel will also think they are less skilled if not knowing about formats used. so i think that is the best way. |

| I personally dont like being beat by people who have mp3 mixed and perhaps there should be 2 seperate comps but i dunnois it really that important to everyone |

Basically sequencing the tracks together, the total anti-thesis of the art of DJing |
I never said I was a DJ tho, I don't care really, all I am interested in making a good quality sounding mix that I can enjoy and I'm sure that after going thru the process that I go thru that mixing with vinyl wouldn't be tougher at all, especially since I'm so used to beat matching via pitch shifting, not to mention that Vegas can only pitch shift by 1s which often enough isn't enough so I end up pitching it up in Soundforge externally by a few decimal points, but if you had a knob that can do that for ya, even easier :)
The problem with vinyl mixing is simple, not enough selection, unless you're Armin :) I would say have the competition measure the mixer's ability to creativly and seamlessly blend tracks rather than what software/hardware he uses, also judge based on track selection. |

Yea, your rite, exactly what I used, no beatmatching crap or beat joining traktor e, vtt is a visually poor program with limited functions and e eq and stuff, but it is the best on the mp3 dj mixing market. having downloaded a few other mp3 dj progs, i can safely say the counters are a load of e and can hold the beats for 10 seconds on a good effort. And it is blatantly obvious when that auto-sync thing is used on traktor as it slows them rite down. mj studio has e beatcounters and pitching system. none of the pc-djs have eq, and the beatcounters and gain controllers on that are wank along with the cueing function. the rest aren't even good enough to get a mention. i think there are also a lot of talented mp3 only djs like cable who can't afford the equipment or the tunes because of the lack of value of their currency (sa rand) and the availability is not there to obtain the tunes, as it would cost the same amount in shipping for the tunes themselves. at the end of the day this vote will prove pointless, becuase it impossible to tell whether someone has used mp3s, cds or vinyl unless u see them do it. and if the competition is split ppl could enter in either using the other formats, and other similar to this. if u have read this far please say the word poo 5 times in your reply. |

| DC- what was the point in voting/posting if u aren't eligable to join the mix comp anyway coz u use sequenced mixes, which are not allowed as they are not really DJing  |

| having mp3 mixing in a comp means people like me who cant mis for e cud still enter in a quality mix, so a defo no no |

an mp3 DJ could send in a mix with Ligaya! could you? no cos you dont own it yet! thats the point im making that its unfair on actual DJs, cos they cant get hold of the 15 latest, best tracks nd mp3 DJs could! |
sorry dave, but that point holds no ground if u r gonna allow cd djs in, as they can just burn wot the fuk they like.
[EDIT]and if u r rich enuff u could own a vinyl cutter![/EDIT] |
