Mp3 Banned From The Next Mix Comp? (pg. 3)

Well its up to luke whatever...I mixed with VTT...Neo gave me a lower mark because I used Mp3, and was unsure what program I used...and he's subsequently apologised for the low mark, but never the less my set isn't quite up to scratch...and was surprised it got such a high mark. TBH VTT is actually harder to mix with than decks...because of the difficulty to manipulate the tracks to get them in time. I worked hard practicing my set and probably put in a lot more work than most people....not all mp3 mixing is easy so take that into account :)

Neo, im aware of BPM counters on mixers but what im sayin is..

Programs can take the bpm from one tune and compare it to the other, then it matches the pitch. It also matches the pitch to like 3 decimal places!!

They also have an unfair advantage of getting all the latest tracks that arent available on 12"

and its abit of a raw deal IMO when Hardware dj's have spent loads of

A. Money
B. Time

to get as good as they are, and then to be beaten by some1 who just clicks a button and BPM's are matched.

nicely put. im with dave. I would prefer to see 20 applicants or however many enter all using decks rather than software. just my 2 cents. Just dont think its rite that a user can click a button and beatmatch just like that.

DC- what was the point in voting/posting if u aren't eligable to join the mix comp anyway coz u use sequenced mixes, which are not allowed as they are not really DJing

I didn't vote, I just felt like voicing my opinion.

Mixing is more than just beatmatching the songs as most people know, track selection, transition points, etc are more important, so I don't see where you're going with that comment.

i can say that vinyl dj's have to have a lot better timing and precision compared to that of software djs.

maybe it has been said earlier, but mixing isnt just about beatmapping or pitchshifting. its about whether or not the next song flows flawlessly from the previous ones. if it sounds good, it sounds good.

i believe that an honor system would work well in this site. still have the competition open to anyone, esp those who are financially incapable of having all the necessary equipment to be truly considered a "dj", but have them say what format it is. unless you all think that the people on this site dont have the integrity or character to honestly admit/expose/say how they mixed it...thats a rather sad thing to say about an online community.

and just wondering, whats a cd dj..? can you really beatmap a cd? the idea never got through to me.

what are you talking about?

your saying mixing on turntables is easier than pressing a button that says *auto beatmatch*?!

and before you can mix your favourite tunes on turntables you have to buy them or get hold of them!

ie an mp3 DJ could send in a mix with Ligaya! could you? no cos you dont own it yet! thats the point im making that its unfair on actual DJs, cos they cant get hold of the 15 latest, best tracks nd mp3 DJs could!

Whoa, i never knew there were programs that could beat match the song for you...sheez that is cheating...

Sorry i got confused, my wave program doesn't have those features so thats why i was saying it was easier on turntables.
big dave
yeah unfortunately some people could use these programs and enter the mix im not saying they would but that seems to me if they did it would be very unfair on actual vinyl or cd DJs! i think maybe there should be a seperate competition for actual mp3 DJs! hhhmmm i dont know some body else pick im tired goodbye

nah dude, i aint those people, yes i use a wave program but trust me this program aint good for it to the work for you..

Well first of all, to the people saying using MP3's is unfair cuz they have access to all the new tracks. This doesnt make a mix any better. Just cuz u have 15 new tunes in ur tracklist it doesnt automatically make it a better mix. Besides by the time they are marked the tunes wont be that new anyway. As for the main argument, I think there is a definate difference and therefore should at least be split. If we had 2 competitions then we wouldnt have people tryin to enter MP3 mixes into a Vinyl/CD mix. But then again 2 competitions would need a huge amount of resources and judges and things which could make it a pain in the arse.

So anyway, personally i think it should at least be split into 2, if not just have Vinyl/CD comp.

Edit : i forgot poo poo poo poo poo

Exactly.. these are things that a computer will never do for you. You can press the 'beatmatch' button all you want, but if the songs don't mesh well and you don't pick good transition points, then the mix will still sound horrible.

Of course, it's still much easier to mix with MP3 than with vinyl/CD's, so having separate mix competitions is probably the best choice.

yah mp3 should be banned. There's no way to control what programs are being used...
