Boston is a great city. And Gareth Emery was pretty packed up there too, I think the city has potential!

I am not an experienced club promoter, this is totally grass roots. I do know some places that I can definitely book though. So this is going to happen, even if it's at a dive bar with no subs. The goal is to get trance through loudspeakers at regular intervals. The number of interested people will dictate how good of a venue we can get. The people I'm working with have connections to nice clubs if interest is high.

Seriously, if anyone wants to pontificate, I'm all ears. It's true that RISE brings a lot of trance people through, but it's hard to say that there's ever been a trance "scene" here-- that I was aware of. so it's difficult for me to understand being jaded about the trance scene. lol.

if you have enough money and the balls to try and do a night at royale with someone big, then i'll tell you how to proceed. just a heads up though, unless its someone in top 25, you won't be able to fill that place up beyond 50%. rise has the best system in boston, even though its basically a 2 floor apartment. you can talk to tom or darrin and see what they say when you have some more structure to your plan. i think they're looking for people to do their campus parties, but you won't be doing too much trance at those times of the day...

Met awesome people and had the best time!! I used to go to the same place for Tiesto, and it was decently full, but never packed, but that was a WHILE ago, like 2003-2007ish.

Also, I am not really familiar with Rise, as I have only been twice. Once was for a trance night and once it was not. Those are my experiences in Boston: tons of random fun, but never expecting much in terms of a massive crowd or Big-room nights.

I am all for ANY city getting a decent scene, though, so more power to anyone trying to start something up! Just do it right, so you dont turn OFF the newcomers!

I see people say Boston has potential...honest to God it doesn't because all I've seen is decline. When I was at Tufts the International Thursdays was a huge event each week, I can't tell you who I saw because I was a n00b but EDM was cracking! In 2000 or 2001 Oakenfold packed out the club on a Tuesday/Wednesday night.

Fast forward to 2006, Avalon Boston packed out two nights of Tiesto in May so after the college kids went home, October had a crazy amazing Armin party again packed out and sold out and I heard Markus on a random night and it was 80% full. Then in 2007 and there were literally a handful of people in the club, Markus was freaking walking around and the crowd was just randoms who wanted to dance...wonderful night though. One of the best actually.

THEN 2008 I went to hear Kyau & Albert at Rise and that was right up with Mauro Picotto/SvD @ WH with being one of the worst parties I've been to. The crowd was just embarrassing it was like a den of crackheads! cl0wnz0r can back me up, the people there were idiots and had such weird reactions to the music K&A played all types of random stuff trying to engage the fans and NOTHING so after maybe an hour they probably said to themselves it we'll do whatever we want and they did. They rushed out of that place like it was on fire amid questions from the relatively together people who wanted to know who they were.

Now it's 2011 and Avalon Boston, the beautiful club I once knew that had dancers, foam falling from the ceiling and lasers is the House of Blues...I went to a company party there in 2010 and I was sad at what it had become.

Good luck with the Boston thing but imo it's just gotten worse with time...

That was absolutely the worst party on the face of the earth, in any city, any year, any month.....bar none. Literally, so far from the second worst party, I cant even explain. I know this is off-topic, but everytime I think of that night I just cringe. :nervous: :wtf:

the opening dj played some really slow minimal and mauro came on to follow it for the next 2 or 3 hours, no flow in his set at all and very little progression then out of no where his last 30/45 min he banged it out ha ha which i liked played some classics and just upbeat banging techno...but before that was a snooozefest

sander came on and i think they cut his set short also

i dont think that room was meant for their sound tbh

@Wai

hmmm in 2008 2009 i saw ferry and that was packed and an amazing crowd

randy shows were insane too

Tiesto omg!!!!

PvD...i hate him but whatever

hmmmm the Kyau and albert show i saw in 2009 wasnt crack heads and the crowd was smaller- maybe 70% but they were all heart and it was fantastic!

ronski speed at rise was a joke....and so was his set so cest la vie

i guess im lucky because i have yet to see any "joke" boston shows

I lived there in 2002 and only went to a few shows...then in 2006 a few....then not again until 2008 and have been going pretty regularly since.

So far this year Boston seen a pretty good line up. Just from the top of my head I can remember:
PvD
Ferry
A&B
Tiesto (3 nights)
Armin
Gueta (dont care)

Trouble at the door. Had tickets IN my hand, but for whatever reason they didnt accept them and I had to pay twice. I did it just to see Sander, which was dumb on my part.

Terrible opener. Mauro was ALL OVER the place. Worst. set. ever. At one point he played ENYA. No, not an Enya-EDM-remix, just....ENYA. In case you are not familiar, please youtube a video and you will understand how OFF it sounds in a club. He, for some reason, played until 3am, which gave Sander very little time (not to mention prolonged the worst set in the history if mankind). The set was literally AWKWARD, as people didnt know what to do with themselves for ~3-4hours. There was not enough alcohol in the place to make this enjoyable for anybody.

Then, goes the crowd: top 3 worst crowds ever. Ok, I lied: worst crowd ever. Nothing beat this crowd. Really, really, really ed up people: trying to climb on stage, falling OFF the stage, falling ON sander and his decks, spilling the drinks on him TWICE.....AND spilling drinks on people in the front row, cutting the music once because of spilled drinks on the decks, little help form bouncers even though Sander was clearly annoyed, girl throwing up in the front row, girl falling OFF the stage into front row (different girl), f*cked up guys getting pusshy and speaking in some sort Mangladesh language (If I remember correctly, they were Polish), while trying to push the entire crowd around very aggressively...the list goes on about that night! :nervous:  Typically I can find some sort of way to have fun during a flop night, but that night just made us all horrified. LOL
