But yes, I agree that most of us have had very different experiences from you, which is probably why we dont go back a lot ;) :) I would love if they got something LEGIT going on up there, though, because my BFF's from high school live there, and I would love to take em out without feeling like it will be a complete FAIL of a night! :D

edit: on that note: the second worst crowd I have ever seen was one of my nights at Rise. I had a GREAT time one of the nights I went, and a piss-poor night on the other. So, I really have no opinion of the place as of now as my experiences were totally differing, depending on night.

Trouble at the door. Had tickets IN my hand, but for whatever reason they didnt accept them and I had to pay twice. I did it just to see Sander, which was dumb on my part.

Terrible opener. Mauro was ALL OVER the place. Worst. set. ever. At one point he played ENYA. No, not an Enya-EDM-remix, just....ENYA. In case you are not familiar, please youtube a video and you will understand how OFF it sounds in a club. He, for some reason, played until 3am, which gave Sander very little time (not to mention prolonged the worst set in the history if mankind). The set was literally AWKWARD, as people didnt know what to do with themselves for ~3-4hours. There was not enough alcohol in the place to make this enjoyable for anybody.

Then, goes the crowd: top 3 worst crowds ever. Ok, I lied: worst crowd ever. Nothing beat this crowd. Really, really, really ed up people: trying to climb on stage, falling OFF the stage, falling ON sander and his decks, spilling the drinks on him TWICE.....AND spilling drinks on people in the front row, cutting the music once because of spilled drinks on the decks, little help form bouncers even though Sander was clearly annoyed, girl throwing up in the front row, girl falling OFF the stage into front row (different girl), f*cked up guys getting pusshy and speaking in some sort Mangladesh language (If I remember correctly, they were Polish), while trying to push the entire crowd around very aggressively...the list goes on about that night! :nervous:  Typically I can find some sort of way to have fun during a flop night, but that night just made us all horrified. LOL

it's hard to believe that's true, but i was there and KNOW that it did. i believe someone might have even said "sorry" to SvD at the end; he was nice enough to come to the front after his set...

randy shows were insane too

Tiesto omg!!!!

PvD...i hate him but whatever

hmmmm the Kyau and albert show i saw in 2009 wasnt crack heads and the crowd was smaller- maybe 70% but they were all heart and it was fantastic!

ronski speed at rise was a joke....and so was his set so cest la vie

i guess im lucky because i have yet to see any "joke" boston shows

I lived there in 2002 and only went to a few shows...then in 2006 a few....then not again until 2008 and have been going pretty regularly since.

seems that we crossed paths, started going out in 99 and stopped in 03 when i graduated and left boston then made select trips up when i was in grad school. overall, the best parties imo were at the beginning and in 2006 from there it all declined. i didn't make the trips up as often once i got comfortable in nyc, so maybe the shows in-between the ones i went to were better but the ones i did go to were far from great. the kyau & albert party was pretty bad and it left a lasting impression.

K&A weren't bad because they played whatever we asked for. i remember they even played SvD - Riff within 30 seconds of me asking for it, haha. i don't remember it being THAT bad of a night tbh. maybe the first few hours.

best party at rise for me was stoneface & terminal banging out 140bpm tracks with 20 people there at 5am on my birthday 2.5 years ago. that was AWESOME!

I am not an experienced club promoter, this is totally grass roots. I do know some places that I can definitely book though. So this is going to happen, even if it's at a dive bar with no subs. The goal is to get trance through loudspeakers at regular intervals. The number of interested people will dictate how good of a venue we can get. The people I'm working with have connections to nice clubs if interest is high.

Seriously, if anyone wants to pontificate, I'm all ears. It's true that RISE brings a lot of trance people through, but it's hard to say that there's ever been a trance "scene" here-- that I was aware of. so it's difficult for me to understand being jaded about the trance scene. lol.

O.K. if you are for real, really from Boston and interested in doing something, your first mistake was posting a Boston related question in the NY section of Trance Addict. I know there is no Boston section on here but that was your first mistake. This is what I would recommend, go out, go out to events and meet people. I don't know how old you are but in Boston you need to go out and meet people in the real world. There are a core group of people in Boston producing, djing and putting on events and there are a core group of venues where it is happening. You will not find out about most of these things by checking Trance Addict. To start check Weekly Dig, Phoenix for events and then get connected online, especially on FB. Also, don't limit yourself to Trance. Open your mind and go to related dance events. The key thing is to meet people and see what works in Boston and where. If you post on here you are just going to get unhelpful bull from people with way too much time on their hands who know nothing about Boston.

...or he could talk to people that are very active in the Boston Trance scene that post on NYTA and understand what works and what doesn't? :stongue:

you mentioned an EDM core group, but there is also a core group of trance heads in boston, which is what he was looking for. i would be more than happy to help him if he messaged me, but he sort of disappeared. of course, if he wants to delve outside of the trance world, which he sort of has to in boston, then he should take your advice on meeting the organizers of weekly parties and one-offs.

Yeah, I know, thats why i was thinking about him and Rise not being a trance-room, but I figured Patrick would be the go-to-Boston guy in terms of organizing something :conf: ;)

Haha my ears are burning :)

I am, as already stated, by no means a trance person but from what I've seen lately Rise has had some trance djs and of course Royale as well with the big name guys ie. the guys that pack the big rooms for the most part. I think Underbar has even had a few of the trance guys but my night is a house/techno/nudisco night on Wednesdays. We are doing really well :) There's plenty of stuff going on in Boston but trance really is in the minority. There's a ton of Dubstep and Electro parties that are weekly that I am not into. My agent actually works for Embrace and does a lot of parties at the Middle East in Cambridge and puts 700+ in there for her events :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

@ The guy who started this thread - There are plenty of venues to do parties in from Cambridge to downtown. If you do find a lot of interested people find somewhere with a decent sound system where u can build up a good regular crowd if u plan to do a weekly/bi-weekly event.

silly comments? could have a better title? new member?

yeah. whatever.

But there are so many uneducated and FALSE boston statements on here im seriously laughing and getting a bit fustrated.

Yes, boston is not as big as NYC. Yes, boston has some speed bummps. Yes Boston has a number of failed nights on their roster. Yes boston lacks promoters and moey

NONE of this is lost in NYC though. NYC has the same issues NOW as well as when they were trying to get going.

NYC is BIGGER people....end of story! Not to mention Boston is younger....

Boston has potential. Boston DOES bring big names as well as locals, ect. Boston has had MANY great shows.

Ferry Armin Kyau and Albert Ronski Speed PvD Tiesto Randy Kristina ....im not going to list them all thats pointless.

Let people get excited and have huge hopes and xpectations....jesus

PS Rise has had A LOT of trance nights. They are trance and house and a little of everything else

If this was Electroaddict or Dubstepaddict.com there would be like 1000 plus people posting from Boston. I think those crowds are busy doing something else rather than posting on a messageboard whatever that is....but definitely not showering :)
