the whole point is to see where you are at, then develop a plan to get you better. If they do not help you get better, sue their asses!
also, some places have a force distribution of scores that they have to give, so you may not have earned a two, its just your co-workers are better (more well liked) than you. |

Ya it's hard to say without the # this is out of but my 2 cents:
-Offices are 75% politics and 25% work so don't take it personally.
-As someone else said it could just be a sign you need to look at your weak areas and improve. This leads to promotions and more $$ which is the reason you're there in the first place so try and see it as an opportunity.
-Maybe it's a signal this is the wrong career for you? If you don't enjoy your work at least in some minimal aspects then you won't be good at it.
A 2 is effin brutal though whether it's out of 5 or 10. I'd be mega pissed at first too but what can ya do if it's already done... Are you sure they aren't just trying to screw you out of a raise? I had a boss like that where everything was good until it came time to my annual review/raise and hit the fan. Soon as the review/raise issue was closed it was all good again... |

I wouldn't worry about it.
If you are dedicated and happy with your outputs AND if the people with whom you work directly feel you are an asset, that's all you should care about, imo.
Unless you have the kind of job where shareholders and outside stakeholders need to be kept happy, management won't really take anything to the extreme.
Also, sometimes reviews are more about superiors waving their cocks around and trying to trickle down various non-realistic theories they want to put into practice.
I'm find more and more that seniors and execs often have no idea what is really going on and don't grasp the meat of the business. I know that sounds like a "no " general statement, but I'm just underscoring it, as you may have lost sight of that idea if you're pissed about your review.

chances are you probably really suck at that particular aspect of your work. you should probably just kill yourself and get it over with.
i find the best way to tell how much you are appreciated is how big your raises are every year.... if oyu are getting 2% or less.... they hate you.... if you are between 10-20% a year, they like you so much that you could your secretary and get a bonus for it. |
