Help. How do I buy a car? (pg. 3)

1. Buy used.
2. Pay cash.
feelgood
Thanks again for the advice.

Im fortunate enough to have a decent job that pays well(Software R&D), however the principle of overpaying for a used car + insurance does resonate.

Ill have to put some more thought into it/do a little more research. Perhaps even a sentra Spec V or Lancer Ralliart might be a little more affordable.

Playing Dirt 2 on my PC doesnt make the decision any easier =(

it just get a pedal bike. CCMs are on sale at Canadian Tire now too. No gas, no insurance, maintenance is cheap...

Oh and arguably they're better off road than a Subaru.

i didnt bother reading this thread, cuz after the first post dissing STi's I was like :conf: :whip:

I own a 2002 WRX, my 2nd, and have been with Subaru's for the past 5-6 years. They are AMAZING vehicles, don't listen to what some of these ppl are saying. They are so stout and perform very well in any condition possible. Treat her well and she'll beg you for more.

Go to the states and pick yourself up a nice rust free STi for like $10k, hell, even less.

You'll probably end up paying just sub $300/month insurance on it but what ever it's totally worth it. , I'm paying $335 a month on my second insurance company for a wrx...

I'm pushing well over 300hp and will spank a lot of STi's out there, so if you ever want to see what a beat subaru's can be, shoot me a PM and we'll sort you out ;)

Bought a 2010 Altima for my birthday in March, first vehicle and just turned 25. Clean record minus a 15 over in my boss's car couple yrs ago. Got the car from my buddy who owns bunch of car lots in London. Took off 3k off the asking price and with the loan I got approved for (4.5%), he bought out my 1st yr of insurance. My payments are $164 every 2 weeks. Can't ask for much better for my 1st vehicle. Anyways, not exactly contributing much to your situation but thought I'd share my experience with my first car

10-15k is too cheap for an STI, you'll most likely get a beat up/high km one if you can even find one.

A lot of them have been beat on and I've seen many of them tracked, a high percentage also have/had mods.

STIs are not cheap on insurance, the're considered 'racer' cars so liability was always high on them, they also have a lot of desirable parts so theft risk is high, again not cheap on insurance.

When financing a car you'll need full coverage, that adds to the premiums, and even if you take it off the road for whatever reason you'll need to have Fire/Theft insurance at all times.

If you still want one, pay to get a proper low km un-molested example. Get the VIN and get a Carproof, make sure the kms add up, no accidents, the less owners the better. Look at the title and make sure it's not rebuilt or salvage.
Have the car inspected by someone who knows those cars, a proper inspection will tell you if there's any hidden accidents/damage or electrical/mechanical problems.

Subarus are hell on earth to drive. The wrx, is especially that. Top gear rated it as a box.

They definitely aren't the smoothest out there but it all depends where your priorities lie... Eg A Hummer is on gas but chances are if you're buying one you don't care.

It's just a shame we have so few decent AWD car options over here compared to Europe. Some of their smaller sport coupes and compacts just embarrass ours left and right.

It most definitely is but I'm considered high risk with my track record. It was hard trying to find a broker that would even take me.
