Insulting Religion (pg. 8)

i find that some quotes of hal from the movie 2001 apply nicely to religion;

Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

It can only be attributable to human error.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

Religion(a small group) are readimg what they see fit and disregarding the rest. I feel this is a positive thing.

If they can pick and chose the verses they like and disregard the ones they dont like, then why should they even bother with the texts? Why not just get rid of the entire thing and think for themselves? Do they really need a book to tell them what is fit and what is not? What would it be like if the book was never there? I find it pathetic that someone needs help from a holy text in order to live as a good human being.

Look, I'm an Atheist but I'm putting myself in the perception of the new modified views of the new breed of Religious people.
There isn't many of them but it is interesting they feel this way.

And I feel they should be respected for not taking the Bibles bull crap so literal.

This is the new breed of Religious people,although there isn't too many.
But, they don't judge us Atheist as harshly and that is something we should actually appreciate, if you stop an think about it.

People have been cherry-picking the Bible for a long time, adhering to the Holy Scripture they deem convenient and snubbing their nose at that which they felt to be arcane if not out-dated, and let me tell you something. Each and everyone of those people are burning in hell.

To deny them is to deny God and that is the ultimate sin!

They deserve less respect if anything. At last the crazy people that actually believe and follow everything in there are properly commited to what they believe is gods word. In a way that sort of a detachment from reality deserves a certain kind of respect...then death by fire.

People who pick and choose though...no respect. No commitment. THey take a supposed word of god, rip out what they think the omnipotent omniscient higher being got WRONG, and say, now this make sense, that other was clearly crazy but this makes sense, ill blindly believe in this. Yeah, not worthy of respect.

i equate peoples beliefs about God and religion to a bunch of fish that are trying to describe what is outside the aquarium
