HOLLYWOOD (KTLA) -- An impromptu music "block party" by DJ Kaskade turned unruly Wednesday night, when the assembled crowd refused to disperse.

The premiere of the Electric Daisy Carnival movie had been scheduled for Wednesday night, but was canceled.

Thousands of people showed up, forcing the LAPD to shut down Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange avenues.
Police ordered the crowd to disperse, but many refused to leave, and began fighting and throwing bottles.
Some people jumped on police cars, and officers responded by shooting them with bean bags.
The crowd also set fire to an LAPD cruiser on Orange Avenue.
Kaskade took to Twitter amid the chaos, saying that the party was over and urging people to calm down.
"EVERYONE CHILL NOW!!! The block party has officially been shut down! BUT THIS IS TOO CRAZY AND WE NEED TO BE SAFE!," Kaskade tweeted.
"I AM REALLY CONCERNED FOR EVERYONES SAFETY AT THIS POINT! PLEASE RELAX," he also said.
Finally, he pleaded, "EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HOME NOW! I DON'T WANT THIS TO REFLECT BADLY ON EDM OR WHAT WE ARE ABOUT. BE RESPECTFUL AND CHILL OUT!!! |

| Insomniac carries all if not most of the blame for sure!! I guess there is also a Gladys Knight concert at the bowl as well. Should have picked a different venue and set up screens or something. |

Fans turned away at Electric Daisy film throw bottles, other objects
Los Angeles police were responding in force to several hundred people throwing bottles and other objects Wednesday evening outside the premiere of the film version of a rave at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
“We are trying to disperse the crowd right now,” said Officer Karen Rayner, a spokeswoman for the LAPD, about 7:30 p.m. “We have requested additional resources.”
There were no reports of injuries or property damage, Rayner said. But witnesses were reporting beer bottles being thrown and smashing on the street.
The film is about the Electric Daisy Carnival techno music festival, which features DJs and acrobats and is attended by tens of thousands of people. It became highly controversial after a 15-year-old girl died of a drug overdose at the two-day event held in July 2010 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park.
The premiere of the film of the event has been promoted for weeks, with the promise of an after-party at a club nearby. But Wednesday’s event was by invitation only, said LAPD Capt. Andy Smith. When news of the premiere went out on the Internet, others who were not invited tried to crash the event.
The disturbance began when those fans were turned away by security, Smith said.
The film was being shown as scheduled. |
