It's impoverished - Lots of westerners seem convinced that it's a future superpower and will one day be something. Don't waste your breath folks, it won't. There are more poor people in India than in the whole of Africa. You cannot even imagine how poor most people in India are and how squalid their cities are.
It's far away - There are lots of far more accessible and more interesting countries that don't have the same retarded cultural differences that the average westerner has no interest in. North Africa or the Caucasus is geographically much closer yet few westerners have any interest in those places. They're also much closer culturally and don't worship cow .

Are you out of your mind!? Europeans and most Indians have ancestors that belonged to the same civilisation/linguistic group less than ten thousand years ago! There's been an intense exchange of ideas between India and Europe (from which Graeco-Buddhism derived) ever since the dawn of civilisation - the Devanagari script used to write Hindi and our very own alphabet, for that matter, come from the very same source.

It's because the British influence on their culture make their immigrants much easier to deal with than those from Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

I think there is a lot of compatibility between middle and upper-class Indians and their Western counterparts. And as Lira stated, the ties between the two civilizations go back a long way. Also of course there's the British influence, as stated above.
