Allright, Luke (dumb ) didn't listen (SURPRISE :D)
i told him to NOT post the rules, but wait till the website was finished (wich will be finished when he decides to mail me a list of suggestions ...)
Anyways: R-yeah has a wildcard into the comp, so he's mixing
t0ast will be mixing too (he also has a wildcard ...)
I dunno if these two have already submitted their name, but anyways, they are in ...
R-yeah is "the founder" of TA's battle of the mixers, and t0ast is kind enough to supply us with FTP-space for the 3rd time in a row ...
So, have a good one ..
PS. I see lots of belgians entering this comp ..
GO DUTCHIES :D

right on :) i'm back in....thanx Cyrax for giving me a spot....this one's sure not to disappoint!
one word about mp3 mixing tho.....in the first two compos we _all_ had agreed that mp3 mixing was allowed (which is how i got my start)...so i must ask who the hell decided that mp3s are out? i thought this was pretty much decided already....
i've got my cd-decks now, so i'm not worried about the mp3 deal, but for those newbies that wanna get a start in and show their talent, an avenue should be available.

| t0ast, theres talk of a seperate mp3 mixers comp, good idea I think |

i don;t think thats good enough tho. It was better when mp3 mixing was allowed on here...and it still should be. personally, i thought we were all mature enough to cut the purist DJ crap and just let people mix. who cares who's got the money to support the hardware or not, or who can afford a bunch of vinyls...its should be all about style and content, not about how its done (with the obvious exception of sequencers, which was agreed upon by all at the beginning too).
if a newbie wants to pit their skills against the rest of us, it should be his choice. They may not win, but they get the practice and a little constructive criticizm too.

i think the main problem with mp3 mixing is that altho there are some honest people that would not use beat matching progs.. at the same time there are those who would cheat which just aint rite :nervous:

Muahahah, I'm a judge,
be afraid, very afraid, cuz I judge very openly, ask Neo when he's spinning :)
Ok, I have a suggestion for a 4th catergory: INNOVATION, and why that? you will ask yourself, here's why
you can fill a 60-80 minute set, with 12-15 songs which are currently the best ones out there, BIG DEAL, everyone can do that.
Innovation means, you pick out new stuff, old stuff, stuff which isn't known to the masses, and you put those in your set, making your set stand out from the other sets, delivering new song, innovating the sound.
Cyrax thought it was a good idea, think about it! |

Right, can't be arsed to have a big beasty quote in my post, but in reguard to your idea about "innovation" in theory it sounds good, but in practise it will not be. My argument follows:
Basically we had a 4th category for judges extra marks, eg use off effects, scratching, innovation, originality, etc. but that became farcicle as it was noticed that the mark was being used more to whether the judge liked the mix, as innovation will also be imo as innovation in one person's eyes will be different to anothers.
Also, I have discussed the idea with a few others, and in great detail with Mike, who is in agreement with me that we will be having a prog based mix comp again. And I cannot be arsed 2 judge 15 prog mixes. And Mike made a very valid point to me that the big name DJs don't get extra money for being innovative. Although this comp is on DJ ability it doesn't mean that sum1 who plays a blinder of commercial trancers can't beat sum1 who plays a crappy prog/hard set. And naming one name (sorry about this) DJ Zevan, who was particularly innovative (or not, depending on your view on innovation) in deciding he would make a complete mix of James Holden, and from being 2nd in the 1st comp to finishing near the bottom because of his innovation, in my opinion doesn't add up.
I think we need to have a proper talk about this, so when we are all on mIRC sometime, we can have a proper discussion about it.

| Well as Luke stated me and him have discussed this and i think Luke has wrote it a lot better than i could. As he says i think it works in Theory but it wont in practice. but im sure we can all discuss this and put forward pro's n con's towards it. But i think the main problem again as luke said is that judges will use it as a scale of how much they enjoyed the mix. Therefore Tim, may well enjoy some of the Proggier mixes a lot more and will think they include a lot more interesting tracklists n so on, whereas Luke will feel that a nice blend of epic n hard may deserve more points for innovativeness and so we will end up with split decisions. |
