| It was done for this reason as well, but we are (mostly) talking about a long time ago. Now it has become a social norm of sorts because of it being something that has been done for a very long time now. Kind of like religion was in the 50's. |

FYI. I didn't look it up on the net. They displayed the pictures and explained everything at the hospital when it was coming up on time to decide...

They laugh at both sides...as well as show how much statistics are purely invented or on done on 3rd world sample populations where hygiene, education and medicine are sub par compared to the developed world. Circumcision is not evil, but lets face it 98% (i can invent numbers too...look deeper into those studies to both pkc and spam;) ) of the time it is for cosmetic/theological reasons.

Human beings are sturdy animals, and via the wonders of evolution have managed to be at the top of the chain species wise on this planet. As far as the medical or scientific communities? They can't even agree and post conflicting "well researched" studies constantly. Some refuse to even do the procedure anymore. Some say that it should absolutely be done. Who is really right?
No one is calling anyone a butcher. I just think that giving young men the choice is not dangerous and honestly is the fairest thing.
Girls with nice breasts are generally more socially accepted no?. Would you put breast implants in a child (without giving them a choice) to make sure she fits in with her peers? At the same time do you know that breast implants actually significantly decrease the risk of breast cancer? It really should be done at birth to save lives imo.

lol, ok just making sure.. i don't care if people think it's acceptable or not, i just believe that people have the right to make a choice. and as a parent yourself, i'm sure you know just what i mean. |

I didn't even get my daughter's ears pierced because I view it as a decision only she has the right to make. I'm with you on this point Jay... if it isn't medically necessary any decisions with regard to modifying one's body should be left up to the individual to make when they are of sufficient competence to make them. My son will be more then welcome to get circumcised should he choose that for himself. This is a reflection of my personal values though, I don't impose them on others.
Please note; I am not in any way suggesting that anyone who does have their son(s) circumcised is making a poor decision or has done anything disagreeable. |

Wiener, take no notice of the kids here challenging your choice. As you are well aware; parents have to make choices. Intent needs to be the yardstick of virtue... if you did what you honestly believe to be in the best interest of your son then good on you. |

I agree with all of this as well. The day (if i have one...i'll be punished and have 5 girls, watch this:p) my son says, "Dad I want to be circumcised.", I will be on the phone within minutes making the appointment to have it done if I believe it is what he truly wants.
To me it isn't about him looking the same as me. To me, it is about giving someone the proper information and letting it run with it how they see fit. I'm no parent, but I'm pretty sure that the motives behind most of my future parenting will be along those lines. Preparation to be who they want vs molding them to be what you want. |
