Meh, good for keys and leads but pads aren't the greatest.

I agree...

For pads...

NI Absynth, Camelaudio Alchemy, Spectrasonics Atmosphere/Omnisphere, RobPapen Albino, U-he Zebra, NI Reaktor...

You cant go wrong with these... ;)

I also agree, for pads (somehow) Sylenth isn't just that great. How about NI's Massive? Is it a good synth for pads? Is it a must have synth overall?

makes sure it has more than 600 voices if youre serious about pads!

Back when I had Massive all I knew how to do were use presets, so I know nothing about the actual tweaking of the sounds (though I know Absynth is incredible for making your own sounds, I'm sure Massive is similarly good)

The presets were mostly very dark and avant-garde, I've never heard sounds like those with any other VST. I wouldn't call it must-have, but if you like experimenting with odd sounds it'd probably do wonders for you.

It does have some nice straightforward sounds too, though. Still, FM8 or Absynth would be a better choice from NI for pads, in that order.
