My brain needs constant stimulation, so if I need to get fiddling with my phone in front of you it's because you're boring me.
I also think texting while driving on the highway is fine, I very rarely crash... |

Not addicted at all. If I hear it ping, I may check it. If I check it, my answer depends on the urgency.
I avoid checking it when I'm out with people. I think it would be rude of me to stare at a phone when I have people to connect with all around me.
When I'm not using it for communicating, I make use of functional things like maps, or the web browser to find information on the fly. |

Aside from checking it for emails (when I'm away from the computer) and streaming audio in the car I am not glued to it. I've been told by a few people I'm horrible at responding to texts in a timely manner but I think some confuse the brevity of a text to mean it warrants a quicker response. Similar to being 'online' on msn messenger or 'available to chat' on facebook -- none of these necessarily mean you are 'free' to respond right away. I don't know about all of you but if you're in a certain train of thought (reading a book/working on something) the phone can totally distract you from the task at hand.
As for dinner -- if you enjoy the company you're with you should keep the phone use to a minimum. Exceptions, of course, if you're expecting an important email/msg which needs time-sensitive response. In a group, all it takes is 1 person or 2 ppl to check their phones to start a chain reaction lol. |
