I've started to eat a lot healthier but there are still a lot of occasions where I eat bad food. As for exercise, I'm that guy that will find any excuse as to why I don't have time to do it. I do a fair amount of walking every day but that's the extent of my physical regimen. I'm thinking I might buy weights and start exercising at the house but would I have to keep buying more weights as I become stronger? Maybe it'd just be easier to go to the gym...

buy some weights to get you started and a door frame pull up bar

Restarted my running routine after a back injury from about a year ago. Still kinda bothering me so I can't really go full effort yet.

Also got a lot of summer beer belly to get rid of lol.

Great to see that many people rely on daily/weekly exercise routines to maintain a balanced life style.

I play Tennis as often as possible since it is one of my favourite sports and I find the cardio work-out is extreme after a couple of hours. There usually isn't a single day where I am not drenched after playing for 1-2 hours. Being a casual smoker in the past and having asthma has always bothered me over the years but after a month of playing Tennis my lung capacity and stamina have greatly increased. Its one of those sports that are difficult to play without developing some sort of injury over time whether it is Tennis elbow, foot, back, hips, arm, shoulder etc.

Since I am an Ectomorph I have a difficult time gaining any weight so I usually only lift weights when I decide to go on a strict regimen of exercise/diet. Its really quite frustrating having to pour thousands of calories down my gullet on a daily basis in order to gain just a few pounds.

This thread should be a great motivation tool for anyone lacking some sort of exercise in their life. It seems apparent that everyone who does some sort of physical activity on a weekly basis feels much healthier and for the most part have a more balanced life style.

Just started p90x last week and loving it. I quit my gym membership in July but I may go back here and there just for variation (was going to the gym for about 2 and a half years prior to quiting).

Thanks for the link.

I have actually done a thorough amount of research over the years based on my body type and what must be done in order to achieve the results I want. For the most part I must do a weight training routine 2-3 times a week and the rest is primarily gorging on healthy food and resting.

I'm not sure how many other people are tall and skinny like myself but if you believe you need to workout 5+ times a week in order to gain weight, you are doing it all wrong. Simply put, Ectomorphs require less expenditure of energy (calories burned) and far more caloric intake than anything else. The more exercise we do the faster it eats away at our muscle. Seeing that I have had about 8% body fat for the majority of my life it only increases my BMR even more.

To give you an idea, my body currently burns approximately 2200-2700 calories per day without any exercise. In order for me to even maintain my body weight I must eat an equivalent amount of calories, nevermind with any physical activity or weight training.

I have had success in the past with my weight training/diet but I usually get fed up with downing protein shakes on an on-going basis and usually just take a break from such an intense routine for a month.

This is a fantastic site with loads of information on how to gain/lose weight and to maintain a healthier diet/exercise routine. There are a tone of different calculators on the site which provide information for your Body Mass Index (BMI), Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), calories burned, calories required etc.

Pump iron 2-3 times a week. Lacking in the cardio department.. I usually rely on the weekly intense dance workout at a club for that. Gotta stop relying on that..

your welcome dawg.

I'm an ectomorph too, and I hear you, it's hard to gain and keep the gain, but it is doable. There are people whose body changed dramatically, and they even became over weight. I worked out 5 times a week during June- July and gained 5 lbs. I was taking two kinds of supplements, a gainer and protein supplements with a bit of creatine (later found out it contained it.) Due to an issue I couldn't continue for a months and lost the momentum and am down 2 lbs. But considering the growth such a work out plan can pay off. But got to really prioritize it and have a peaceful environment to capitalize.
Based on the information we need above 5K calories to get results. It can be tough since it’s not a regular thing. But after a while the body gets used to it. If you had difficulty to continue I suggest finding a source of inspiration. For me the mirror is one. To see the growth is very rewarding. Also find a gym buddy.
I have started again and shall continue for another 2,3 weeks. I want more muscle volume and increase my weight. Currently I’m 147lbs and 5 11 tall. 2,3 weeks won’t get me too far but it’s okay. In my opinion the first step is to be happy with the way you are.

if youre skinny and want to gain more mass, eat more carbs.

Sasha
1g of protein per 1 pound of your weight.
so if u are 170 pounds, your daily protein intake should be 170g!
"shock your body" workouts do magic! screw the machines, its all about free weights! you body should be in a state of shock after every single work out!

make sure you work out your legs more at the beginning! your lower part of the boddy needs to be strong and heavy before the rest of your body can form into something decent!

For the most part. I would say the body never really gets used to the protein shakes/supplements since they are not natural. If one could eat 6-8 solid meals a day of complex carbs, lean proteins, healthy fats, and the required caloric intake for your specified body type then your body would adapt quicker.

I'm slightly taller at 6'3 and 155lbs right now which leaves me at BMI of 19. In 2009 my weight peaked at 165lbs which has dropped since introducing more cardio in my weekly routine. Actually I definitely over-do it when I play Tennis for extended periods of time.

Do you weigh yourself multiple times on a daily basis to see how your body weight is fluctuating? My body weight fluctuates from 152-158 just about every day. Its incredible to think that much weight is lost/gained within a 24hour period.

Also a recommendation would be to work your quads and glutes the most since they are the largest muscles in your body and will support your entire frame and allow for faster muscle growth. You will know if you pushed yourself hard enough if your legs are buckling the next day trying to walk up a flight of stairs :haha:
