| gym 2-3 times per week. Basketball 2-3 times per week as well. It's at the point where if I don't get exercise during a day my body feels restless. |

Takayuki - you do indeed have the gist of it.
It simply comes down to consuming vast amounts of good quality nutrition for us ecto's to gain.
For me, that number is around 4,000kcals per day. Any less than that and I begin losing weight, and losing strength. It is indeed a mission.
However, maintaining it gets easier over time. I've managed to put on just over 40 lbs since last July, despite having a month off due to injury.
They key, for me, was adding whole milk. Honestly, 2 liters of milk is a huge chunk of the calories, and you can always find room for a glass of milk at a meal.
I don't rely on shakes whatsoever, aside from immediately post workout. Even then, it's primarily high glycemic carbs.
Anyways, check out the stronglifts.com site for a solid program. |

I would like to be playing hockey right now, but due to school / money I will not be playing in a league this winter.
how ever I will be trying to find any sort of hockey as often as i can this winter.
I'm also on my feet all day at work, and I've lost about 20lbs since i switched positions at work a year ago, so there's your proof, just get off your fat ass and you'll lose weight. |

wow, i'm 6'3 and 180lbs and i thought i was skinny :)
def no cardio for you. make sure you work your legs till u cant walk straight! you will start gaining weight when your legs are strong |

I used to be pretty serious about volleyball back in the day, playing on a club up to provincial/national level. These days I need to play at least once a week to get my fix. Usually play in an indoor league Sept-May, and beach league in the summer. If anyone ever needs people to play vball in the Toronto area, I'd be happy to.
As for weight/gym training, it's not really my thing. I have trouble getting started and into a routine, and I don't want to be that guy reading the instructions on the machines. Would rather stick to sports.
This summer me and friends have been playing ultimate frisbee on the turf fields at Cherry Beach most Sundays. Awesome sport on an awesome field. |

Glad to know the research I have done is fairly accurate. 40lb's in 1 year is absolutely incredible. Is that entirely muscle gains? I will definitely try incorporating more milk into my diet as its one thing I don't drink at all actually.
For the shakes I have never relied on them either except for a good post workout drink to immediately restore lost carbs/protein/energy.
Since you are a sports nutritionist, what would you recommend for a diet considering I am doing more cardio now? Seriously, I'm shocked you actually put on that much weight in 1 year so maybe your body is more forgiving than mine because it took me close to a year to put on 15 lbs since I do not gain any fat whatsoever.
Thanks for the link BTW.

Haha yeah I have been hovering from 150-165lbs for the majority of my 20's. I don't have a gym membership at the moment nor do I have enough free weights to really give myself a good workout at home so for the time being I will have to suffer with my current regimen.
180-185lb is far from skinny. It's actually my target weight for the future. That is the best BMI for our height depending on your body fat %.
I bet you don't have 8% body fat do you? :haha: |

| I have respect for those that can do it, but I absolutely hate being in the gym. Biking, soccer, snowboarding and walking the dog is the majority of what I do. |

Once you bulk up, it will distort your BMI.. so measure your waistline too, as the measurement of belly fat is a good 'supplementary' indicator of overall male health, in addition to the body mass index.
For us party types, shakes are good before and after an all-night gig but when you're back to non-party mode, try to eat fish, chicken breasts, tofu, legumes, whole grains, dark greens and drink lots of water.
Lay off the salt and sugar and you'll look like Bedpan Betty in no time :p |

Nice! I would actually prefer to have a little more body fat... 11% would be ideal for me. How many years have you been going to the gym? Have you always been close to that weight range prior to going to the gym?
If you are at 180 and 8.3% body fat I would say that is your ideal BMI (22) give or take 5lbs.

Ah of course, the visceral fat around the belly is the worst and a cause for concern since that is the catalyst for diseases to come in the future. I'm quite lucky and have never had to worry too much about this. |

I ride my bike almost daily, hit the gym a few times a week, softball once a week, and beach volleyball occasionally.
This summer has been a return to an active lifestyle I enjoyed before i started "going out" on a weekly basis. It was tough at first but I have come to treasure it and don't intend on letting it go ever again! |
