Exactly, he's always been involved in a variety of genre's and is constantly changing and moving forward. I don't think he's great, but he's in no way crap either. I don't like the term sell out because it implys he owes you the privilige of playing tunes you like.
Oakenfolds fans like him because they share his taste in music and know that, whatever he decides to do next, it's going to be something they like. That's what having a favorite DJ is all about, not them playing the tunes you like, but constantly surprising you by playing the tunes they like :) And you liking them of course. Which is a bit of a contridiction but you get my point :p :o :D |

I hardly think the money ed oakie up of late...as he was already loaded from back in the late 80's....he produced a fair amount of the "madchester" style Band/Dance music (Happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc..). I don't think he's tried doing progressive at all...more chilled trance and breaks....and if thats what he likes, and what the crowd of every club he fills to the rafters like...we can't really complain much can we :p |

All in all u the person must define whats progressive. If you think a track is progressive i might not think its progressive i may stil fit it in with general trance also what is prog. trance and prog house its a fine line actually i think its more like a few fine lines crossing each other around and certain stuff can get classified as one or more just depending.
As for oakenfold suckin I dont know about all of that yeah he may have a balloon head and i think even Oakie-ites wont put a big fuss up about that. But any ways he may be disliked by alot of ppol for different reasons, reasons that arent becuz of his music or mixing. A DJ plays what he plays what he wants to play and just takes ppol with the same interests as he does and shares his talents. Oakenfold good before every dj changes styles as time goes on if not everything would sound like 1995 or 1996 or sumthin like that.
I think right now trance is gettin back to its roots in a way. Maybe not all of it but i think enuff to notice the change yeah alot of things are goin progressive but thats not a bad thing I dont think. Just away to get away from the mainstreamy commercialized sounds only problem is progressive just lloks to be goin maintstream which i wont hate on it even if it does becuz its progressive. |

anybody who's an artist acknowledges maturity n growth in their tastes n in their styles. u don't expect these talented ppl to stay stagnant in their musical calibre, just for ur pleasing? they wish to explore, so allow them to. don't bite on em jus for that very reason, n though i think "bunka" suks ass, i don't think he's worst a dj for it. its just different. he made a mega contribution to trance, acknowledge him for that at the very least. |

When I saw Oakie live here in DC earlier in the summer he tore the place up. He changes a lot in styles sometimes for better, often times for worse when it comes to his compilation mixes. All I know is that his album tranceport is what made me fall in love with trance and learn about PvD, and that through perfecto presents another world he introduced me to Tiesto. His studio mixes may suck, but the dance world awes him a lot for shaping the scene to its current form and I owe him much on a personal level for introducing me to a form of music that has become my life. He is an artist, he changes directions. Just let him do his thing and not criticize him for it.
Being a true 'DJ' is selling out anyway. You are playing what the crowd wants to hear, and from my experience he does that very well. |

Do you know why you say this? NO? Well I do, U'r just a n00b to trance and read some around on the forums, you picked some bad things up about Tieto and Oakey and by writing it here U think you got respect LOL, u'r really wrong here.
Saying this clarifies that your musical (trance) background isn't that big, else u wont say this.
I bet U didnt even listened to Oakenfold at Dance Department and Godskitchen Global Gathering.
