I came here thinking we were going to format their servers

And Facebook is what you make it: I personally think of Facebook as a giant playground with a built-in bookmark keeper... highly recommended.

1. just drag the facebook icon on your mac desktop to the recycle bin
2. why do you have to delete it, why not just never log in?

So, what now for you? Leaving social media forever?

Don't forget, there is always Google+, it sucks, but is an option.

I don't like to be the type of person that doesn't respond to messages. If someone makes the effort to contact me , I'd like to return the effort. So by deleting my Facebook it just forces people to contact me via email instead.

I'm giving google+ a shot but I havn't really sat down and figured my way through it yet. The main reason I want some sort of social media is because facebook was actually very helpful keeping updated with new releases and artist news so I'm hoping google+ can fill me in on that stuff. Until now facebook has been my only source of social media so its well possible that I don't have a problem with social media, and just don't like facebook. We'll see how that works out.

Hah , I really should, that would be awesome! Hand written letters are so much more appreciated than wall posts.

Yes and no. Which is one of my main issues. You don't have complete control over what other people write on your wall and what pictures other people post of you etc etc. Therefore, its not just what you make of it, but also what other people make of it as well.

Even if you delete your account, that doesn't prevent others from posting pics of you - all they have to do is upload it and then write something like "Taipan and me at the Renaissance Fair". As for your wall, you can prevent people from posting on your wall, so that's one less problem to deal with.

Which leads to the following question: What sort of friends do you have if their actions bother you so much?

Not so much my friends that bother me, but more so my clients and family. I don't like worlds colliding.

Oh, sorry.

In this particular case, you can keep clients as an underprivileged group (either add restrictions or have them like a page instead of befriending you) and, as for your family, teach them how to use the new group thingy, so no one outside your family needs to see what you share with one another :)
