but then again, nothing will ever come close to that night...
PvD @ SF > any night JP @ SF
Totally that night was bananas, BUT I had a few great night at SF for JP. Granted it was a long, long, long time ago. Don't understand what's going on at D36, they seem aimless over there.

further proof NYC is NOT WHERE IT'S AT!
bring me a Sasha and Digweed Residency, a PVD Bi-Monthly residency, and off nights of Carl Cox, Seb Fontaine, Junior Vasquez, DT, Satoshie Tomiie, Sander K, and then we can say the nightlife is revitalized in NY.
They used to have nights just like that with those exact DJS at that at this place called Twilo and it was pretty cool :p .
Sadly those days are long gone. See the threads for Deadmouse selling out 6 nights at Roseland, Avicii selling out in 2 minutes and crashing ticket servers and SHM playing MSG.
It's a new era in EDM. A ty, over produced, whack era.

thanks and this isn't directed at you I just find it hard for me to believe someone's actually agreeing with me on here, i was waiting for neonbitch to start posting sneak peek walk through pictures of how JP wants his decks laid out because this party will change the ny edm scene forever and he's in with the scene and has all the knowledge of how should be ran
the only successful way that this city has brought good sound minus the corporate layer bull in my opinion has been BLKMKT, ReSolute, and Mr Saturday/Sunday.

bravo man, bravo
couldnt have said it better myself...i know my post or your's wont change a thing
but the day's of top djs coming here and building up a set to take you on a journey with elements of suprise are over
look at last years top 20 theres maybe 3 or 4 dj's who actually know how to build a set...everyone else just comes plays all their hits,mash-ups & the "sing a long" tracks....wack
but there is a good underground scene for techno, tech house and some real trance let's hope it dont get ruined by the masses and dj's selling out

The death rattle officially began when Crobar closed.

To be honest - I've only gone there about 3 times? Once for Derrik May or Carter - can't even remember which one.. Hernan Cattaneo and Mauro.

Dam man, I hate to be so young. I started listening to trance (perpetuous dreamer, PvD, Allure, Riva, Airwave, 4 Strings) when I was I think 9 years old. 3rd grade. I'm 19 now. Luckily I had an older brother who was introduced to trance by one of his older friends and it all just trickled down to me.
You know what I really don't like so much anymore? I feel like it's becoming all about THE DROP. Enough of that... I want a damn journey, I don't want 20 seconds worth of music that's just a build up and the first bar of the chorus.
And dammit I WISHHHH I could have experienced those days at Twilo and Crobar I hear everyone talk about. I remember my brother coming home at like 7am when I'm getting ready to go to school, and he'd just tell me about how he got to get into the booth FOR FREE when Ferry's DJing, and Thomas Datt and Nadia Ali were there with him. He got to speak to Ferry and tell him he's his inspiration, and then Ferry replied to my brother "Man you know what? You don't know how amazing it feels for a fan to tell me that. THIS is the reason I make music. Thank you." Then the next month he got to hang out with Ferry backstage before the show and made him laugh a bunch of times. This was during his LEF residency at Crobar.
Or about how when he was 16 years old, and he and his friend bought fake ID's and they were soooo psyched that they worked and they got to see Armin blow them away for 8 hours as their first ever trance event.
Lately all I've been doing is digging through tracks from 98-2004 and I've been finding some amazing songs I've never heard before. Some of my favorite songs of all time were from that era, and I'm talking about songs that I've heard for the first time in just the past 2 years. I have no emotional/nostalgic attachment to them (and therefore no bias), and I don't lower my standards just because they came out long ago. Yet I still find them mindblowing.
:( :( :(
I wonder what the scene will be like ten years from now.
But you know what I miss the most? How everybody had so many aliases. How it was so cool to find out that Dutch Force was actually a member from Rank 1, or that Rank 1 was two people in the first place. I loved all of the aliases. It seemed so myseterious and more underground. I'm pretty sure that when a DJ just uses his full name, it's more of a "superstar" kinda things... it gets them known more somehow.

I won't be joining AYSTAR for the Montreal festivities that's coming up but definitely waiting for the day Hernan comes back to New York. That night was one of he highlights of 2011 and probably one of my favorite sets ever.
And I have never been a JP fan myself but don't know how these parties will end up. All i see him is spinning classics or will that pretty much be it? And werent Fridays their gay night parties recently?

way to go D36 with your "underground" motto
what are you trying to say? JP isnt "underground" ? :tongue2

well ell atleast some of us can say we were around in one the best era's for the scene.. To have been able to go to twilo every Friday night for 4 years before it closed makes me feel lucky. Not even just twilo.. SF was good then. EXIT when it first opened was nuts then the went down hill.. Limelight, tunnel...Vinyl/Arc..Guliani came in and cleaned up shop on most of them andnow its a joke, so i barely go out. That and im getting to old for it LOL

Maybe some of us are getting older/jaded. But the vibe used to be so much different when these guys showed up with two bags of records and just played for 6 hours.
