JayT has always been outspoken. I don't know him personally but I can vouch that even up until a few years ago he was calling ppl up inviting them out to certain club nights -- and these are ppl who hadn't 'clubbed' on the regular for a few years. So, he put his work in.

In terms of bottle service, I agree that it has ruined 'clubbing' somewhat in Toronto -- I'm not against booths just the practice of squeezing them into as many places as possible with some clubs barely having a dancefloor. Times change but as an example: I can't imagine FTWK Wednesdays at Tonic having been anywhere near as good if half the club was set up for bottles. When it works financially you can't really be surprised at the trend continuing. Between bottle service and ppl playing/taking pics on their phones it is surprising that any dancing still happens at all :)

Agreed on the promotional aspect too, hand-to-hand flyering is a nearly extinct breed and standing out from the crowd now often just means having as many different (fb) promoters as possible inviting you to the same event.

Don't know the situation with local DJs but the reason the names mentioned are still around is because they've been dedicated, professional and are/have been affiliated with popular venues. Early bird gets the worm and when they started out as (vinyl) DJs it was "unique"... now everyone calls themselves as a DJ since the barriers to entry (due in part to the internet/social media) are non-existent. Prior, if you were to be known as a DJ, it was a combo of word-of-mouth, playing at the right events and/or securing a respected residency.

this guy gonna tell Richie Hawtin he's not a DJ? what about Marco Carola? please

You're 100% right...however I think the argument is moreorless someone who is not as advanced using that tech by advanced I mean in the capacity that they use it...he's talking bout 100$ djs not tech Gods like Richie and Marco, or even seasoned Toronto vets who use that tech.

I don't see why everyone thinks Bottles are "ruining the Toronto scene". We all know clubs do it for monetary reasons (and they are businesses, so who can blame them) but go party in Vegas, Miami, NY or LA.. in most of those cities you won't even get into a club if you don't have a booth or a group of good looking women, or you'll pay upwards of $100 on a regular night. And all things considered, Toronto isn't even THAT bad for bottles unless you're rolling on Richmond St, at least there's still underground clubs like FW and CZ you can go to, hear great tunes and have a good time without all the nonsense

As for the laptop argument i don't think he is calling out DJ who uses a laptop, but rather the problem is that a lot of young DJs resort to technology as a means of not learning how to beat-match and taking shortcuts, so that's fair

That being said this guy still sounds like an old twat who needs to enjoy his twilight years cause posting angry video rants on youtube with his dumb "OMG YOU KIDZ GON GET SKOOLED!" attitude isn't exactly helping the scene either

Vegas, Miami, NY or LA..

This is exactly what we're trying to avoid here.

I really wish Jay T would come back to save the Toronto club scene with more sick parties like he used to throw at Fluid

LOL you beat me to it... Vegas club layouts are disgusting these days. How you can have a "club" with a capacity of 3000 and a dance floor for 200 is beyond me.

Well as mentioned that isn't the case with Guv, FW, CZ, or any of the venues where most talent gets booked anyway. You can go pay a $20 cover max and have a good time without tables and all that BS. If you were to go to see the exact same DJs in any of those cities you'd have no choice but to suck it up, so i don't understand the complaining.. Toronto has a good thing going all things considered
