plus I recall reading on ta a post by one of the circus guys saying he had gone to a ruby skye armin show to talk to him, I'm assuming it was to tt to feel him out about returning to circus.
Svd hasn't played la since april, just played for my pal tim ortiz(EVENTVIBE) in san diego last thursday...again that was EVENTVIBE, not giant/insomniac.
I understand you play at circus now, but let's call a spade a spade, that dude is not a "headliner" maybe an international opener or local midcarder, or regional headliner...unfortunately, im still unsure as to the true definition of headliner, its not as common sense as others stated on the thread I originally asked for a definition of "headlining dj"

Well fine, replace "Giant/Insomniac" with "other promoters". The city and night plays a big part in that, too. If trance at Circus was on a Thursday night, things would be different, but on Saturday nights it's considered direct competition for Avalon/Music Box/etc., and usually a contract will prevent DJs from playing at competing venues for a period of time. There is also the issue of management companies having a preferred working relationship with a promoter. SVD frequently plays for Giant at Sutra, too.

A headliner in this case is any DJ who would normally be the headlining DJ at a Circus night i.e. Genix, who was the sole non-local DJ on the bill the last time he was here. If you don't consider him a headliner, that's your issue, but he headlined the last time he was at Circus.

And why do you gotta be so grumpy, bigperf? You used to seem like such a nice guy. :p

Damion Houchen (Genix) took Circus by Storm last time he was there, literally nobody knew who this guy was, and the small crowd that was there was just going crazy! People kept coming up to me and saying that the music, a very energetic mix of Prog House and Trance, was amazing, haven't seen a reaction from the crowd like that in a long time.

Genix could headline and play the whole night, I would be fine with that, but I know it's a quadruple headliner night, so let's bring it on! :D

This makes me lose a ton of respect for them.

. Hi Paul,
welcome back. Tritonal would never play at LMD Circus again they said. They are " BIG" now and that they don't want to play for a TIER 3 club like us. So for the last 2 1/2 years that LMD have been supporting them, they are too GOOD for us now. It's just too bad things have to come down like this. But I just added another 1 to headliner to the TRANCE ENERGY night.

Each DJ is different and you are typically under exclusivity when you are a resident. And even then, cities like Vegas show that being a resident doesn't even mean that hah.

Anyhow, the fact is most DJs are not under any type of exclusivity agreement. It's more of being loyal and sticking with what works. If a promoter treats a DJ well and finds the party to have a good vibe, they will stick with that promoter. If they screw up, it opens the door the door for other promoters. Sometimes a DJ gets tired of a venue or crowd and just wants try something new out. This is what happened with the mega DJs in regards 1015 and also Circus years back. Circus is still struggling overall; 1015, after largely being remodelled (sans the main room as the addition balcony is not a remodel), still struggled for awhile and has changed EDM formats and the events they do hold have music that's popular these days (though we might not like it) and is much easier for them to sell tickets. About the only trance DJ that plays there still is Paul van Dyk.

I maybe wouldn't see Tritonal as seeing LMD as 3rd Tier, but Circus in regards to other venues in LA. If a DJ grows and can get booked at another club that they feel will get them more exposure (bigger crowds) and looks better for their image, PR wise, right now, they will go that route. That's as much business as just having personal goals. I wouldn't take what they are doing personal.

That said, they aren't THAT big yet. They are full of themselves if they think they are. Not striking down their DJing skills or anything, but their popularity.

I can't see them being booked at any club in Socal at all. I think they screwed up. They should have waited to become cocky, atleast in Socal. They have only played in what, Vanguard and Circus in the last 3 years.. not counting the Massives. But they'll sure play for unreliable Winter Fresh. Their music is great, but honestly, get within top 20 if your gonna start laying down your preference.

Genix + Bjorn Akesson is already a huge night. These are LEGIT trance producers who deserve to be brought out to LA more often! Cheers to LMD for starting this off the right way.

Ugh, dont' be naive and talk as of someone is a good DJ just because of their productions.

Fact is few new up and upcoming producers are good DJs. Most suck ass. But you can still go see them and either be blown away, leave knowing there's hope for him as a DJ (if his programming is at least decent), or leave crying going WTF.

I remember when I saw Ferry for the first time. He started DJing after he got kn own as a producer and was a trainwreck when it came to mixing, but was good with the programming.

Sander van Doorn just showed up in SF (first US gig ever was at 1015 in SF) and blew the whole damn club away with his DJing.

Thievery Corp DJ set was one I was expecting a whole of promise from becuase they are AMAZING "live," but it was seriously the worst DJing I have ever heard. ANd the 1000+ people in the sold out crowd can testify to this as 90% of us left after their first hour. THey were no better the second night. TEEEEERRRREEEEEEBBBBBLLLLEEE.

II prob sound like a d*ck in this post. oh wellz.lol

Nah, you have a point, but everybody that saw Genix last time he was at Circus said he was awesome, including in2muzikk (who is somewhat tough to impress).

It seems like there are some producers who take their DJing seriously (Orjan Nilsen, W&W, etc.), which is good.

Although I'm much more easily impressed after the third drink, if you haven't seen Genix live then ut-shay up-yay. If you have, then I'm all ears no matter what your opinion may be, bring it on! :)
