Fact is few new up and upcoming producers are good DJs. Most suck ass. But you can still go see them and either be blown away, leave knowing there's hope for him as a DJ (if his programming is at least decent), or leave crying going WTF.
I remember when I saw Ferry for the first time. He started DJing after he got kn own as a producer and was a trainwreck when it came to mixing, but was good with the programming.
Sander van Doorn just showed up in SF (first US gig ever was at 1015 in SF) and blew the whole damn club away with his DJing.
Thievery Corp DJ set was one I was expecting a whole of promise from becuase they are AMAZING "live," but it was seriously the worst DJing I have ever heard. ANd the 1000+ people in the sold out crowd can testify to this as 90% of us left after their first hour. THey were no better the second night. TEEEEERRRREEEEEEBBBBBLLLLEEE.

Nah I'm not (naive) don't worry, and no offense taken. I agree with you 100%...... Good producer does not always equal good DJ. However, based on "my experience" with the trance producers/DJs that I like, it has always worked out just fine..... Even if mixing skills aren't 100% up to par, I'll take awesome track selection and good taste in music over perfect mixing. Is it not safe to assume that for the most part producers carry over their "studio sound" to the dancefloor? I can spot shoddy/lazy/unimaginative mixing a mile away and it's not always that big of a deal as long as track selection is good. The same mistakes that you and I hear are probably unnoticed by 99% of the people (barring any severe beat matching ups). Also having the benefit of a club system + a drunk/high audience give DJs a LOT of leeway in terms of ups.
Genix and Bjorn Akesson could be considered up and coming I guess, but they are certainly not new to the scene..... Genix has been producing hits since 07ish? Bjorn since 09ish? Maybe I'm wrong for being optimistic and taking the position that good taste in music = probably a good set, but either way new talent should always be welcome and is a good deviation from the norm.....

downvote without being harsh but these headliners for the big night? look at your calendar in the sig and then compare it to whats been posted. Not sure i agree on the booking decision for this. I would think you are not making all that much with the standard shows so bringing in those names are costly. might as well package them into a big night to sell out. But right now doesnt seem like a sell out.
Not talking opinion on music but name and popularity of selection.
There is intimate and then there is large club with 100 people. Most nights are that. Awkward. Go for a sell out event and maybe dont do a few shows the weeks before - too late for that though. I dunno. Failed opportunity i think. Best of luck though.

Come on guys, did you really think they were going to get top tier talent? Giant wouldn't be able to do it, let alone a smaller promoter like LMD. The talent LMD brings in is new and upcoming talent which is what I honestly would prefer to see. You can only see SVD, Armin, Markus, etc. before you get so tired of seeing them. I had been dying to see W&W for a long time and LMD were the first ones to bring them here. Thanks to those few times, they have now blown up stateside. I applaud LMD for being the only ones who listen to their patrons. Very few clubs are willing to do that nowadays. Hopefully LMD can one day move into a better club and be able to pull in even more people to continue supporting this great promoter

Agreed. If they were looking to save money, why not just bring in some DJ's from SD and SF? The two DJ's announced so far are coming in from England and Sweden, one of them (Genix) played to a sold out show at Passion UK tonight where he is also resident DJ, and his tracks have been "record of the week" on TATW, as voted by the listeners. I'm not as familiar with Bjorn, but I'm still looking forward to hearing a set from someone I've never heard so that I can judge for myself.
I'm looking forward to posting up photos of a packed big room. Maybe I'm overly confident, but I think this night is going to be huge! :D

Estiva?! Oh man, I wish I wasn't out of town that weekend, I have been dying to see him for the past year. I heard his Next Level track blow up earlier this year and had one of his mixes in my playlist for a while. While it's a bit more on the dreamy side for me, his mix was real fun and mellow, especially the Like A Dream track. I applaud you LMD, this looks like a great lineup full of young up and coming talent. Hopefully the night will be fun!
