I was surprised Guetta was not #1 last year, but I think he actually deserves to be #1. He has done a lot to bring EDM to the States.
What I'm more upset is how James Zabiela is all the way down to #94.
Oh well, it's def a new world in EDM. I should have gotten the hint when I told a guy at the airport who was going to Ultra to go checkout the Carl Cox tent, and he was 'Who is Carl Cox? I really want to see DeadMau5" |

Do I personally like him? Um, no. But he has 24 MILLION fans on facebook. The #2 dj in the world...Armin...has less than 4 million. David Guetta is, by far, the most recognizable name in dance music right now...its not even close. No one is saying he is the best, and that he is a better dj than say, Armin, or Sasha, or whoever. He is merely more POPULAR. Why is that such a big deal?
People seem to take such personal offense to this poll every year. I just don't get it. :conf: |

PS: John Digweed was #1 for me this year, followed by Trentemoller in a close 2nd place. :D |

just a side note to all the polls: they only matter in the States. from what i've seen in the last few months in Europe, everyone here is still getting booked based on quality, not quantity. hopefully we'll see that happening again at home. i think we're lucky in NYC with our locals who throw great parties regardless of who the top 10 is.
it will be interesting to see if djmag ever comes up with an "industry insider" poll. |

of the ones you listed I've only heard of Pete Tha Zouk, D Block, and Skazi. Looked some of them up on discogs tho, welcome to jumpstyle, hardcore, and dubstep lol |

I stopped looking at this poll results a while ago. They have no credibility whatsoever. In any case, they should rename their "top 100 best" to "top 100 most popular", clearly not the same. Still look at the RA one though. And doesn't beatport have one based on their sales too? |

That's just the nature of voting, whether you're voting on politicians, referendums, or where to find the best slice in the city. Like the saying goes, opinions are like s, etc etc. People get upset because anyone who thinks differently from them must be stupid (well, anyone who disagrees with me is definitely an idiot :p) and if that many people think that way then oh god the human race is doomed!!!11uno
I suspect there would be just as much moaning if Armin was still #1, but I'm not gonna bother digging up the old thread to check. |
