honestly if i was armin my ego would be shattered a lil bit loseing to guetta lol
but in all seriousness armin had a good run at number 1
but i feel it's time for him to tone it down. instead of week after week traveling from city to city plus doing all his remixes and mash-up stuff he does he should spend more time with his new daughter and being a father figure, instead of tryin to be the number 1 dj again

Yeah, cos at work your boss sends you home to spend more time with your kids. I know, he's his own boss. My dad could stay at home every once in a while, but he loves what he does so much he even has a bedroom at his office (he's his own boss as well). I remember he'd always be working and miss a lot of things when my siblings and I were growing up, but the happiness I'd see all over his face when he'd talk about work is something I'll never forget. A lot of djs tour as much if not more than Armin, have kids and still do it with little time left to spend with their families. Some ppl just don't feel fulfilled if they don't do what they love every day. I can guarantee you that if Armin took some time off he'd go ing nuts. Don't judge ;)

Plus he'd have to tour in order to get groupies. Which, from what I've heard, is one of his favourite things when touring.

then imo he shouldnt be a father then
i dont have kids but i wouldnt bring a kid into this world only to wreck the father/mother relationship by screwing some cheap 18 year old skanks...but again thats a whole other subject

iam just sayin in armin's mind he's probly thinking to himself
"gee how can i become number 1 again?" imo he should just cool it down a lil bit and forget the status...he still has his radio show, puts on his own festivals and still sells out stadiums/clubs etc

iam not sayin he should stop but he shouldnt kill himself tryin to be number 1 again

I don't think he'll ever be #1 simply because of the reach Guetta now has. Guetta has too many 'fans' and based on numbers and the fact this 'poll' is nothing more than a popularity contest, he'll probably never win #1 again unless he launches a massive PR campaign.

Bottom line is who really cares about the results. Go see who you want and enjoy the music, that is what its supposed to be about.

You can thank social media for all of this :D

...there are plenty of artists that would do nowhere near as well 5 years ago without the aid of fb/twitter/etc. - it has helped level the playing field in terms of marketability and avoiding the middleman.

That makes no sense. Many djs have kids. Not like the kid is some bastard child in the hood with no parents. I'm sure he sees his kid enough. And even if he doesn't, who gives a ? David Guetta has 2 kids.

I agree with a lot of this. It will be tough for Armin to reclaim the #1 spot I think, mostly due to the fact that there are just so many new trance names breaking out on a yearly basis these days...new trance djs that eventually draw votes away from Armin. He just has so much competition within his own genre now.

Guetta on the other hand, is like, the MAIN guy to majorly break out in the pop dance scene so far, and he probably gets ALL the votes coming from those people. That more unneducated pop music crowd probably only knows a handful of other djs really.

Only if you consider DJ Rag as the authority on what comprises your EDM scene. It hasn't been in a while - it's like getting angry at Justin Bieber Fanmag not covering Infected Mushroom.... actually, I think they may have. :)

this is retarded. seriously. DJ mag? I would be too embarrassed to even wipe my ass with it.

And , I feel old. I bet most of the today's voting population/DJ Mag target audience would not even know 25% of the DJs on that list...

shrug. oh well. Time goes on. I'm sure there are still people out there who are mad as hell that Larry Levan is not #1. (hey that rhymed!)

Btw, someone pointed out that Guetta had 24M FB fans... just as an aside, Tiesto has almost 10M, deadmau5 has 4+M and even Skrillex has over 2M. Social media is definitely a huge reason a lot of this has changed (although Afrojack only has about 500k followers). DJs like Ferry, Markus, and the like only number in the hundreds of thousands.

I think a lot of it has to do with guys like Ferry and Markus use it to only really to share music and experiences on the road. Guys like DeadMau5 and Skrillex have a whole-cult like following with their social media accounts, posting a lot of personal stuff up.

It boils down to EDM becoming huge in realms other than trance, house and techno. People seem to forget EDM is a very loose term (this discussion has been had on this forum before) and the reality is guys (and girls) that many of you are used to seeing at the top no longer are. Its a new crowd, a new sound, and new results. Everything changes over time, every generation has a sound. Its really no different in any other genre too... rock (80s, 90's alternative, etc), rap.. its all changed over time, generation to generation. EDM is no different.
a.l.d.i.
Djmag has always been 2-3 yrs behind. Next year David Geutta won't be number one. SHM will be :) i called it first.
