i see what you mean, but i mean, its not like you're giving away answers on an exam after studying months. its just music. not many people have time to go on forums all th time. your friends just want a little help being introduced to some new music, so why all this fuss?

By the way, why would you not share them? Half the people on the boards are always complaining about no one listening to good trance, and its not like it really hurts you. Burning a cd is like half an hour and 15 cents :(

I wan't a burner. :( 220 Gigs of HDD space goes fast when you're in the scene. :p

And I am going on vacation tomorow morning so I will be back in 4 days. :D

I completely agree. the reason i became a DJ is so i could spread music to people. I will give away mp3s, audio CDs, tracklistings, information, whatever, it all helps spread the music.

I make mix CDs, burn a whole spindle full of them, and just hand them out to people at raves!

Only two of my friends like trance so I borrow them my CDs with it and they enjoy it.

I agree with you here...this whole thing smacks of elitism to me with people having this haughty view that they've "paid the dues" by spending all day downloading and researching tunes so for some reason the "lesser" fans are somehow unworthy...that's a crap attitude to have IMHO and it's why small music scenes stay small, because of the people who have such backward attitudes.

Whenever I have friends who're interested I'm more than happy to give them a copy of my latest compliation, or even to burn them a custom one if there's stuff that I know they'd like. I don't see a need to be the "high and mighty" trance god who hoards all the promos for myself...if it's quality I want to share it and expand interest in the scene...

Damn straight!

I used to DJ super late night on a university radio station in Kalamzoo, MI, and that's completely how I felt about it. By spinning the music you help to spread the word and let people know what's out there...when listeners would call up I'd give them all kinds of info about the tracks, where to get them, etc.

I also make multiples of my mix discs to give away, I just don't understand why people would want to keep all the quality tunes to themselves...it's only going to hurt trance in the long run IMHO.

Spread the word, Spread the word.....blah blah blah.....

If you guys had any idea about the music scene in this country, you'd come to learn that spreading the word around here doesn't really help anything, at all. Some of you guys would like to see the entire nation listening to trance, infact, thats the wish of a lot of people. But you know what? It doesn't happen like that here. The music industry in this country is so corrupt with money, fads, bandwagoning and popularity, that the chances of electronica surviving and being strong to its truth are highly slim.

We've had our share of the "word being spread". Back in 99, we had a local DJ who pretty much brought a lot of the music to the scene. He spun on the cities #1 local mainstream radio on saturday nights. It ofcourse boosted the hell out of "dance", and what not. Well, lets just say I no longer really go to that club, and that DJ doesn't spin their anymore. A DJ still plays on saturday nights, but its almost as if its burnt out. As if its not longer a "new thing".

I don't feel the need anymore to let the world know about my music. Ignorance is bliss, if they don't have it, they don't got it. I've gotten a few of my friends into it, but thats it. 90% of the times, they like it, but thats as far as it goes. To this day I haven't known one person (that I "introduced" the music to), that has shown the amount of love and respect that I have to the music. Thats ok, I understand that. But I don't feel the need to spread the word. If they want to hear it, I'll let them, but thats all I need and should have to do. Give them a decent cd, if they dont like it, then well, they dont like it. No one walked up to me and handed me a cd and said "listen to this". I found it myself. People here have PLENTY of oppurtunities to fall into the music. We have PLENTY of clubs in the states that play our music. Don't think around here everyones eyes are closed and not exposed. They've seen it.

Our entire party scene has gone completely down hill. Its not just legality issues, its the bandwagoners, the wannabes, the druggies, all in it up. How do you think they got there? What do you think influenced them to go to a rave? Last thing I ever want to see here, and I have always stated this, is any form of real electronic on MTV, on TV, or anything else. This has survived good and long enough outside these borders, lets keep it that way. I guarantee, this ends up on MTV here like most foreigners wish, then well, its pretty much going to go down from there. There's nothing more I can't stand than a poser. Someone "abusing" my music, for their own appearance and what not. Around here, music gets the money sucked out of it, used, abused, then thrown away. Don't forget the level of corruption/temptation the DJ gets, when he's offered a couple million dollars, to do remixes with with a rap artist, etc.

All in all, the music needs respect, and it won't get it here.

Most of my friends listen to the same musik as me, but I tend to get it sometime months before them, so I try to make them CD's as much as I can. I'm always about sharing musik, as long as I know it is going in the right hands. Why waste my time & CD on some bloke who doesn't know what he is listening to???
Srezic
None of my friends really listen to trance or anything. I haven't tried to get them into it or anything cuz they are stubborn asses.

I'm sure if i had friends that listened to trance or house or progressive, or whatever I love, then we'd share songs and info with eachother.

But I haven't had to worry about that yet. =P.

i can see your point, and obviously we can't turn everyone on to trance. no one is asking you to be some trance evangelist here; you don't have to push your tastes onto others. but i mean, the issue to begin with was people ASKING for trance, and people not sharing. you don't need to spread the word in the sense that you talked about, but when your friends ask you for new stuff, then give it to them... they're your friends after all.

i see that a lot of your are mad at your friends for not giving the respect and worship that trance deserves. but not everyone is going to be a hardcore fan, but i'm sure a casual trance listener can derive the same pleasure from the music as anyone here...
jdat
You people are loser, and will only make sure, that the exposure to trance remains to a minimun.

off course this is all about your personnal preferences, but like, WTF is up with not wanting to share?
ok you're not gonna share with random people, but I mean this year and previous years I have tried my best to expose people to trance in whatever shape or form. I've had people snap back saying it sucked, cause they were into cheese techno compilations ... so what...

I've been able to turn a couple people into it seriously, and for that I say it's worth the effort... this kid who's 14 used to always tell me oakenfold rocks etc, well I shut him up and showed him there was more then oakey

I think the purpose is to share

it's like not wanting to share on the internet ... wtf is up with that ... you got possibilities to share bandwidth , SO DO IT

I don't get it why people open one or two slots on file sharing progs ... and then they are the same people who complain about never being able to find their files :(

I guess I'm to idealistic thinking everyone should have access to the same data, at the same speed, no matter who and where they are.

I believe internet should be free, and that no barriers should come in between....

and I've thought that since the days I got a 2400 baups modem

ok go ahead flame me for my idealistic point of views, but seriously give me REAL/CONCRETE reasons why you shouldn't share on the internet, or with friends?

I'm waiting

seriously
