Go on a Morales night.
"I mean it was packed, but it wasn't Morales packed"
A standard to measure by.

I've been there and it's more packed a few times, on friday I thought it was just perfect. There was plenty of space to getcho dance on. I walked in at 4am to a full house. First thing I noticed, Church on the wall as you walk up the temple's stairs. Love it.. the candles were subtle but just beautiful, added to the already perfect ambiance.
Walked in to Maher and Ostrich playing some smooth beats, don't remember much from their opening set because I was drunk among other things, but I had such a good feeling about this night and man oh man.
Crowd was very nice, I'd say 30% were wearing costumes? A lot of cool ones, I saw this chick who I thought was dressed up as Maya Jane Coles but turns out she's just DJ Mini LOL. The crowd was very friendly and not rude like I see a lot on friday nights. Not many gay guys at all, although for the first time I had a gay dude brush his hand up against my package while I was texting. First time I thought was just an accident until he did it again.. gave him a piece of my mind. Also met quite a few people from out of town for this. NYC Toronto even some European people, pretty awesome.
I agree with Highroller, the beginning of Riccardo's set was pure genius, I was locked in and dancing like a maniac. His set overall was very tight, I hear people complaining about his set's direction, mixing and transitions, his music and style is just so abstract and weird that I don't think it mattered. The last few times I go to Stereo, I find myself with expectations so on friday I told myself I'm going in with an open mind and he played exactly like I'd expected. {retty mellow chill set for an afterhours, at one point he dropped the tempo down and it was just groove, before picking it up again at the end. The breaks tracks were awesome, all around good unique set from RV. Top 3 for me. He finished up around 9:15 I guess?
Maher and Ostrich came back on to close up and laid the wood. What a great tech house/techno set. A lot of organic sounds, incredible track selection that kept the pedal to the metal. I can't remember hearing a closing set this good since Layo & Bushwacka. Very nice job guys, you kept the dance floor relatively intact, I didn't wanna leave.. ended up calling it quits at 11am.
All in all, one of the best nights I've had at Stereo. The combination of friends, music, the decor, the people, just amazing night. I've seen a lot of people on twitter and fb saying Riccardo sucked, in LOL.. then again this one girl also said that Umek was so much better. :D

Nice review.
Spin Laden
lol.
Package...maybe he was dressed as a mailman?
princesultan
i like the guy that was dressed as a giant gingerbreadman (or at least i think that's what he was). he probably enjoyed the costume for the 1st bit, but that's gotta be uncomfortable when you're there all night long. the size of the head was huge!
Must read the comments everyone!!!
Some guy from montreal is hating ricardo!!
McNasty
The one's complaining are probbaly the people that were buying tickets for 80$. I think i got more then my money's worth for 35$. Definite props to Maher and Ostrich. It was nice hearing "levon vincent-man or misstress" on that system.
The Highroller
Damn, I wish I had been able to stay for Maher and Ostrich's closing set, but coming from Toronto after working all day Friday makes it really hard to push it that late.

Been a while since I did a review but think this party deserves one.
First off, music-wise I thought it was one of the best sets Ive heard this year, hands down. And I'm no ricardo homer or anything, tbh I never really liked many of his releases (that fabric "LP" was boring as ). On Friday though, I thought he played a quite unique and refreshing set. Really liked that he mixed up a variety of styles in a rather short outing, from tech/deep/minimal/latin house to some great hip hop inspired tracks sprinkled throughout his set...and some cool tech bangers every now and then. I was quite surprised by this, I was actually expecting the same loop for 2 hours with some kids chanting sample being phased in and out.
While I understand why some are complaining that he had some 'boring' sections programmed into his set, to me slowing down the tempo every hour or two (even lowering the volume) is much needed at an afterhours. It allows for a proper party; gives time to chillout a little and even hold a proper conversation with other people/chicks without having to yell in their ear. Hammering the bass out for 10+ hours nonstop is what tires me out, both mentally and physically, and honestly gets irritating after awhile. Its the reason why I cannot stand trance shows, they're just way too intense...the same constant beat/base is IMO not only boring and repetitive but it gives me headaches.
And honestly, I thought Cox was quite boring for a lot of his set on labour day, even though I love the guy and enjoyed his set overall (though TBH its apples and oranges with a 3hr set vs and an extended one). Same with when I saw Calderone last year...to much of the same thing. Too many DJs who play afterhours limit themselves to one style and hammer the same beats/baselines at the same BPMs the whole night. I prefer the variety that ricardo showed us on Friday, including his boring/slow parts, than to hear the same for 5 hours.
Now back to Ricardo, yes he slowed it down from time to time and yes he had a few monotonous tracks here and there but for the most part (especially the first couple hours like has been mentioned) he was great. Mixing was solid, he had some great, smooth transitions with only a couple of hiccups. And kudos to him busting out the vinyl. Judging someone who is mixing vinyl vs someone with pre-editited mp3s on traktor is ridiculous.
Crowd was quite good. Some nice girls. Ratio was decent...Cox was a bit better in this respect but not a huge difference. Overall the crowd was friendly and having a good time, just what you expect to see at stereo.
The candle-decor was a real nice touch, it felt like an actual halloween party despite the fact that maybe only half the crowd was dressed up. I was really surprised when my buddy noticed that they were real candles (fire hazard no?). And I thoroughly enjoyed the new cold air jets...people complain about every-ing-thing here. It cools the place down which is really needed on busy nights. Who cares if it makes noise, its not like they let it rip every 5 minutes. Its a friggin club after all...you know, where you're subjected to ear drum shattering music the whole damn time.
> To sum up for those lazy s who dont want to read, good party all in all. Ricardo laid down a nice set with fresh tunes and good variety. Good crowd, nice girls, and even got to see my first completely topless girl at an afterhours, painted completely in devilish red (massive horns included...pun intended :disbelief). Too bad she needed to hit the gym and maybe a pitch fork to prop up those sagging . It was absoooolutely hilarious to see EVERY girl in the place giving her the stink eye..
