Would like to hear this, but I've got no idea when I could listen to six (or even three hours) of music in one sitting and be able to pay any attention to it. I'm doing some travelling on Saturday and might be able to get the first half in, if I can fix my MP3 player in time.

If it helps, neither part is longer than three hours (the first one is about an hour and fourty minutes, while the second adds about an hour to that).

How long is this set, then? I got the impression from your OP it was about six hours long, but obviously what you've just said adds up closer to four.

Downloading at any rate, so I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah, I was exaggerating. It's four hours and nineteen minutes in total, to be exact.

Should tie in quite nicely with my trip tomorrow then. I will report back.

I like this fun fun "fun-ing-tastic." Sounds like a Meg word.

So I spent most of yesterday travelling down the country to see John 00 Fleming play, and I managed to listen to this entire set in one sitting (sans one five minute interlude where I had to frantically sprint across Leicester city centre asking for directions in order to catch a bus). As expected it was fantastic, with great flow maintained across such a long period and real variety. I loved the hard acid stuff around the hour mark, then the melodic Detroit stuff straight after, and the ecstatic post-dubsteppy stuff after the second acid peak, then the beautifully mellow final thirty minutes or so. The only time I felt you lost it a bit was in the mix out of Confusion - it's obviously a very hard track to mix out of, but it felt like the energy level came way down very abruptly after that. That's a very minor gripe across such a long set, and knowing you it was probably mixed on the fly. It certainly has that "chucking tracks into the mix" vibe about it.

It's almost criminal that a DJ of your talents doesn't play out. I understand you might not be bothered with all the bollocks of self-promoting and networking and having to come up with some kind of signature sound, but you genuinely put to shame the majority of imposters who charge money for their talents week in, week out.

I appreciated the diversity of the music, as well as your crate digging abilities, but quite a lot of it wasn't to my tastes - mostly the moombathon/reggae-ish house at the beginning. Not to mention I didn't really get what you were trying to do with the sequencing. But I don't want to sound like a negative nancy - I absolutely loved the melodic techno in the middle of the set, and some of the acid techno was fun too (especially Confusion).

Firstly, thanks to everyone who took their time to listen. Seeing as how you all probably have dozens of hours worth of new sets, singles and albums to listen to, I really appreciate that you had the patience to reserve about four hours for my set in particular.

You pretty much nailed it. There isn't really any room for a guy like me who just wants to play tunes and make people dance these days, at least not on that scale. I would, however, be interested in doing a John Peel-type radio show where I'd just play whatever good music around, regardless of genre, but I don't know if there's room for a show like that either in a world where music has become so fragmented and pigeonholed.

What the hell is a "moombathon"?

Anyway, I personally think that the structure of the mix follows a very straight forward tension/release-formula that isn't very hard to "get", but I guess we'll see in this thread if people who listened to the mix feel more like you or more like SYS-J did in that regard.

Mr Game+Watch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moombahton - the reggae/carribean inspired riddims in the early part of the mix.

And yeah, I hope I didn't come across as being mean or negative with my comments... since there's a lot of stuff I do really like about the mix, and it's still impressive how you somehow manage to tie the diverse tracklist together.
SYSTEM-J
Sequencing seems fairly obvious to me - it fits a standard "build it up and bring it down again" structure. I guess you don't hear that kind of set as often anymore, as it suits longer sets and it's rarer to hear a DJ play for extended periods.
