So I've Noticed That People Who Don't Tip Think Their Food Doesent Get Messed With.

I read a lot of these stories on Reddit and everytime I do I see tons of downvotes when someone says people should tip.its odd to me because Reddit seems like it would have a lot of college people on it who have had or have a job that requires making a living on tips so they would be more understanding .but nope.

i always explain that if people dont think their food/drink/silverware etc doesent get messed with they are mistaken.as someone who has dated my fair share of waitresses and bartenders i can tell you IT TOTALLY DOES.

is it wrong? not to me it isnt but it seems im in the minority.

what say you? have you or someone you know messed with someones food or something else because the person was rude/bad tipper/etc? im curious to see how often it happens.

oh and you non tipping pizza delivery ordering people should take note as well.my friend who delivered pizzas had a sharp piece of coat hanger he kept for what he called constant non tippers.he said he only used it in extreme circumstances for customers who were rude or just never tipped.

the origin of the hanger was he would always deliver to a rich guys house with a ton of food every week and the guy never tipped.so finally he walked down the driveway and gave the the guys car a long swipe with the coat hanger at the back end of the car.

it was winter and after a week of snowing and salting he gets called out to deliver to the guy again.he looks at the car and sees its already got rust stains on it.he said after that he felt fine not getting a tip.

wrong? yep. did i care? nope.

But you pay at the end of the meal or after food has already been delivered - so how can someone mess with your food after you've already eaten/accepted a delivery?

a lot of people who eat out are regulars to that establishment.so thats what i meant by that.also when people are rude before their meals come out is another way.

unless you're a regular customer or known to be a non-tipper

I get the rudeness thing. Just unless, like you say, someone is a regular ty customer, then the whole idea is kind of bunk.

Maybe if you desevred the tip, rather than expecting one for just doing your job, you would get one.

The fact people plan retribution for people who don't tip shows they're actually just a cunt and probably give ty service anyway.

It's ing 3 dollars get over yourself. You chose to work in food service don't take it out on me.

Ah, that ol' response.

I am sort of drawn on this. On the one hand, yes it IS wrong to expect a tip just because you are in the service industry despite the fact the system is set up to where you rely on those tips, on the other, if someone is completely nasty for no reason (i.e. you don't come at them with an attitude and all your attempts to POLITELY please them doesn't work) then I think a little revenge is in order.

I think that the times you get an undeservedly great tip balance out the times you get undeservedly shafted.

If you're good at your job and provide good service, you will make great tips, if you calculate it as an average. Some nights will be weak, others will be stellar. If you go through the motions and expect your tip at the end, you don't deserve to complain. If you're just bad at your job... find a new one, and trust me, you can tell by how much you're tipped on average.

When dealing with a regular, no matter what, it's not kosher to mess with someone's food. If "revenge" must be had, it should be in the form of knocking someone's order to the back of the line, or forcing the offending cheapskate/ to wave you down while you ignore the table.

Small victories. No need for expensive car scratches or actions against the food/dishes/cutlery that may cause illness.

You must have never worked in an office. People are nasty in every work environment. The only difference is that in food service you don't have to be confrontational about it and you can just mess with someones food behind their back like a coward and get your 'revenge' that way. What a thing to do. If you actually think this is okay you need some perspective, like bad. If you're so butt hurt by what a customer says that you're willing to risk someones health, than you are in the wrong business. Come to think of it you probably won't last long anywhere.

Actually, I have worked in both offices and the service industry (not as a server, I'd blow at it) and understand people can be ty. I tend to just ignore them, but not everyone can easily turn a cheek. I find this quality helps me last quite long at places like that. :)

Also, I never said what kind of revenge, you, in your swift judgement assumed I was referring to something horrible; It could be as innocent as 'forgetting' they wanted the ketchup on the side or malicious as wiping your ass with their bun.

Just remember that when people are being mean, it's usually never about the thing it's about. ty days are passed on from one person to another that's just the way it is, it's a natural human condition. You have to filter the energy out somehow and unfortunately being in customer service means being on the receiving end of that a lot of the time. It's no different than a man getting yelled at at work then coming home and taking it out on his wife and kids. It's a cycle. It's never really about the toast being too dark.
