As someone who has a Nord Rack 2X, i found the stock sounds not great and i think you must be willing to spend time to program sounds
i think if you expect to just turn it on and be "wowed" by the sound you might be disappointed - just my opinion
I kinda left mine sitting for a while until i got more determined to use it in tracks - it really does have a nice sound especially when you open the filter, the high frequencies are very prominent but not harsh
I find it really starts to shine when you push it to extremes, like using FM or very fast PWM |
Well I've tried to listen as much as possible and I know it may sounds kinda lame but I dont want use the factory presets I need to buy that hardware to force myself to start learning some synthesis this is my goal for new year ;) and I hope that h/w synth can help me somehow reach that goal, will see.

Is it the keyboard version, or rack version? That price seems in the ballpark for the keyboard version, but high for the rack version. Also, just FYI/FWIW from my observations, the going prices on the Nord 3 has been slowly but steadily increasing over the past few years. |
Its the keyboard version.
I think I might found a solution for navigating within ableton and its Behringer BCF/BCR 2000 , seems kinda old but got very nice review and the price is also very attractive. Any users of this devices here? |

Just go for the Virus TI. It has much more sonic capabilities than the Nord 2x .
Once you get stuck into creating sounds you'll be in love.
I owned the Nord lead 2x [moved to a different country] and sure it did sound nice and all, but the virus is on a different level and if had to choose one it would be the virus.
You can pretty much recreate all Nord sounds on most VST's like Sylenth1 and after adding FX I bet you wouldnt even tell the difference. Its just a wank factor synth.
Have you even tested both synths? |

More confusion again :p Well I don't really have an option here to test them by myself.

LOL you could say the same thing for the Virus - lets not go down that road |

At some point, you've just got to tune out all the noise and ask yourself which one you really want. The truth is, as much as people argue about the difference in sounds between various synths, they all pretty much do the same thing at the core level and the differences in sound aren't as dramatic as some people would have you believe. The most tangible differences are in workflow, features, and parameters.
So, find the one that you want and get the best deal you can. The odds are pretty good that you'll love it regardless, but if you don't it, sell it and try another one. This is why I almost always buy synths used - they tend to maintain their resale value over pretty long periods, so you're very unlikely to lose any money in the process. |

I think the reason the virus is so popular is the amount of presets you can get for it and also it has on-board fx so the result is more instantaneous
Just get both :p |

agreed ^^
but soon dont worry, VST/AU's will put hardware to shame. |

Oh puleez, let's not beat that dead horse again. Hardware is about hands-on tactile control and using/owning a physical instrument.

And if Urs had decided to place that same digital code on a chip inside a shiny metal box, then hardware would be putting VSTs/AUs to shame? |

And? what difference does it make if you can physically touch it or not? |

Seriously?
You should try turning of the computer, go meet an actual female (or male, if that's your thing - not judging), then answer that question for yourself. ;)
Trust me, many people would take real knobs over their little mouse any day. YMMV. |
