quoting a BIG so cal promoter. I'm not going to publicly name them and put them on blast, but they did offer this information up, so im not being an M.D.

John O'Callaghan is referred to as a "longstanding trance legend"

never even cracked the top 20 on dj mag(which is a bs indicator anyways)

i thought trance legend was something reserved for artists like armin van buren, tijs(who doesnt do trance anymore, so i guess he's not a trance legend), paul van dyk, maybe even andre & above and beyond?

if joc is a trance legend, that sure deems that the bar is not too high to reach that level.

Legend? Nope. I would use that term for someone who has been playing massive events and festivals regardless of production and dj talent for around 10 years. Legend purely as influence in the music scene as a recognizable icon. With that class, I am implying that successful artists like Guetta and Swedish House Mafia are not legends but rather purely successful artists. Pretty much think this is the case for EDM. For other genres Legend dates much more I would say.

Legends?

Sasha, Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Nick Warren & Jody Wisternoff, Simon Berry, Orbital, Olivier Lieb etc..

JOC? No. First single '04, first album '07. Not enough. Maybe someday.

Gotta give credit to legends too who started it all in terms of genre's like Frankie Knuckles, Fracois K, Larry Levan, Kevin Saunderson, Derek May, Juan Atkins, etc

I would give them higher rank. Pioneers.

Exactly. Legends I perceive as icons of the music. Those who are recognized over a large amount of time with a fanbase that does not fade.

Pioneers are those that worked behind the scenes and gave rise to the Legends.

That's the best you've got? Some guy said who his favorite artists is, and since he hasn't been in the top 20 of a list you think is bull, you now believe your taste in music is obviously better?

I love house as much as Will.i.am. and Lil' Jon...

Guetta is the true legend here!

This thread lost credibility after that comment.

How does a promoter know whats better? Because it books better numbers? It could be just he/she's preference.

A promoter in the UK might say something different....

I don't get the point of this thread.

As I stated in my opinion a mag result is bs...and that seems the best thing joc has going for him, so for someone to call him a trance legend....

As for the point of the thread I think its been accomplished. I wanted to see what trance fans thought, and its unanimous joc is not a legend so if referred to as a legend, the bar is low for a trance artist to teach "legend" status. As got the guetta comment, I don't believe he has been referred to as a house "legend" yet his credentials are much more glamorous than joc, therefore house legend status is much more difficult to earn.
House> trance.

Is it though? Put some asses in a video, and pay a rapper to be in your song so it's technically hip-hop, and BAM, you a legend and not a sellout...

Drop the JOC thing, he has made 5-6 good tracks ever.
For me it would be Markus

sigh....

reading comprehension dude...
I never stated that joc was a legend... so its not "my thing" to drop.
i just posted a statement that was made that likely reached a
LARGE group of edm followers saying that joc was a longstanding trance legend that is all.

many ta members bitch/moan/complain about certain dj's who get way too much acclaim when it is not warranted(afrojack comes to mind)
but then when a medium that reaches the masses makes the outlandish statements that potentially lead to the overhyped factor, you know who plays a Giant role in this....

jhericurl jill's greatest hits. or whatever hairstyle/nursery rhyme he wants to name himself after
