Elitism. Anyone new gets attacked immediately on the entire site. MD was always like that, COR in particular but now Production and DJing too. Wherever you go, it's often just a giant circle jerk of the same people ragging on the same or new people.
Combine this with the prevalence of social media and you have your answer. It isn't dying, it has just reached equilibrium.
