Lot of the genuine spirit, creativity and entertainment died off somewhere along the line and got replaced by attention seeking wankers trying to be funny, gain acceptance simply being vulgar and insulting.
Don't get me wrong, burning idiots (and humiliating rubbish trance DJ's) is as close as TA has to a national sport, but if that's all you've really got and you're not actually very good at it, then it really just becomes quite boring.
Think a lot of the more interesting folks and there was a fair few of them from a variety of backgrounds that you'd not meet anywhere else. Left for that reason that it had simply become a white-noise of abuse, vulgarity, try-hards and really not worth the time to pick through for anything. |

But there's always been people being "vulgar" on this site, even since I've been here. That's not a new thing to TA within the past year or so, it's been prevelant all along.
Stu, don't kill the random talking thread. we've been doing that since, what, 2007? 2008? Pretty sure it was Lucid who started that trend.
Also, something I thought of; the picture thread is also slowing down quite a bit, also a consequence of facebook. I see the same pictures on facebook as i do on TA. Facebook is easier to post pics to, for me at least. |

Lol, you people think VAR is interesting??
Hal is interesting. Lira is interesting. Meat187 is interesting. Var is NOT interesting.
God you people suck. And then you wonder why nobody likes you. :stongue: :stongue: |

Two words, at least for me: assrussell, psychon-J.
In most other forums, they'd be perma-banned by now. Here, they get a diplomatic immunity for some unknown reason. |

In a "Holly , check out that crazy hobo arguing with his coffee cup in the middle of an intersection!" sort of way. Yeah. I guess.

Elitism. Anyone new gets attacked immediately on the entire site. MD was always like that, COR in particular but now Production and DJing too. Wherever you go, it's often just a giant circle jerk of the same people ragging on the same or new people.
Combine this with the prevalence of social media and you have your answer. It isn't dying, it has just reached equilibrium. |
I think this charge of elitism is a little misplaced. A lot of what noobs are bringing to the table is akin to sitting in a science lecture and hearing the question, "Is rain a form of energy?" Yes - that really happened, IRL, and it happens in the production forum, all the time. These sorts of discussions, where numerous people bring uninformed assumptions to the table, are conversationally entropic. Yes, they create a lot of activity but they don't add anything relevant or substantial.
It's not elitism to be wanting to have a better level of conversation or to expect for people to not be wits, for that matter, every time they post. The occasional newb moment is absolutely forgivable. The constancy of them, however, is retarding. Yes, the forum may be in a slump. Some of that might have to do with Facebook. Some of it might have to do with people moving on. Some of it may have to do with hostility but when there is a constancy of kindergarten questions, it stands to reason that a lot of people are just going to outgrow a place which isn't providing much else. |

| I'm for locking the random talking thread. Not saying it will fix everything, but it won't hurt... what are you really losing by closing it? |

Because it functions as an informal chat-room, that thread is a sort of release valve. I've seen thread-topics started out of it, when people want to continue conversations that may initially have been thought uninteresting to the wider COR audience. I don't think anyone will see a huge uptick in new or more relevant topics simply by closing it. |

| Also, the Pictars thread is kind of a hodgepodge of miscellaneous photos of funny pictures, memes, and personal photos. Wasn't it originally supposed to be pictures of TA's? |
