I hope it does come back. I actually enjoyed that place - loved their sound system and patio.

I know its not the same sander, or the swedes you referred to but the last saturday in november 2011 you had the choice between sander k/ eddie halliwell and axwell/ sj&rm...

Sooooo, ya you still have choices.

The choices for today are: Dash Berlin, Eddie Halliwell, Kristina Sky, John Dahlback, and Gary Beck (in no particular order).

If I was lucky enough to be back in Los Angeles, I would go see Dash Berlin.. :D

I was always underwhelmed at Vanguard after everyone talked about it so much. The patio was cool, but the inside had a very cold feeling (not temperature) to it. Never experienced an over-the-top vibe there.

competition like this is always good, especially when some promoters or venues get complacent, lazy and behind the times, only to get caught asleep at the wheel and then suddenly get leap frogged by someone more enthusiastic and full of fresh ideas.

and now with edm being so big it will be interesting to see what alliances form. for example, can insomniac take on sensation by itself? or would sensation join established regional promoters, for example someone like a giant in socal and skills in northern california? or maybe sensation goes with live nation and do it like the identity festival tour.

then you have some of the behind-the-scenes companies like AEG live that own/lease a bunch of venues like warfield and regency in SF, and they're doing sell out shows all by themselves without the help of any promoters just because they have this "monopoly" on larger sized venues in SF. no idea who has exclusivity for LA venues like this... but someone like a live nation could easily outbid avalon or vanguard for a headliner's socal appearance by just booking a 10 city tour for a lump sum.

in the meantime, any smaller promoters who fill the niche that those big guys are ignoring have a good opportunity to build a following that will last through this cyclical industry.

U must have missed j00f and cl. There were quite a few great nights there. The nite i opened for svd was pretty spectacular. Thats when he was still playing the sound that made him a supastar.

I remember a few great insomniac parties when it was still called qutopia

In case you werent smart enough to figure it out, most people consider OC a part of the LA market when thinking in terms of options for the EDM consumer. Especially in this thread, which is about two companies that operate in both LA and OC in addition to Riverside County.

But thanks for the heads up on the location of eddie and john's performance this weekend.

Original poster clearly stated la. Orange county is not la...in fact on a bad traffic day I could get to san francisco faster than someone could leaving from la to costa mesa. But I won't claim sb is sf...
And by sb I don't mean san bernardino, which is definitely NOT la.

Equal distance for me, but that's only me
