It's just so uninspired. They're taking us and our money for granted. $150 for a generic-ass lineup. To me, it's totally marketed at the 18-22 college kid demographic. I want some more mature sounding music on the bill.

I didn't read this before.

unfortunately that 18-22 year old college kid demographic is whats driving the major rise in edm in the united states. :/

This.

yea

but theres no excuse not to cater to all tastes and preferences

especially when you have two days and multiple stages to do it

that lineup seriously blows

Right. At least Ultra puts on a good show for those who want some of the tech sound (the Ibiza tent, Cox tent, the little tent that had the Visionquest guys, etc). Actually, the best part about Ultra is the Cox tent...I've never seen another festival in the U.S. with anything similar to that thing.

EDC Orlando on the other hand has nothing in this category. Not even a small side tent with some tech-house. It's all electro-pop-crapsteap-EDM with the big trance jocks sprinkled in. Lineup is beyond awful.

And yeah, so far the UR1 festival seems overpriced (but it's $170, not $200, and only several dollars more expensive than EDC Orlando right now), but they're not done announcing the headliners and stages yet. They're taking a different approach to this, I guess. And even if it is overpriced, it still looks absolutely badass. At least I know the music and party will be there. Better than spending $150 on this EDC Orlando lineup. Maybe the tech is yet to be announced (the CEO said this on his twitter feed yesterday), but with only 3 stages, I don't see how they pull it off with the already announced acts. What are they going to do? Put Loco Dice on the mainstage at like 5 pm (followed by Chris Lake, lol)? Yay.

UR1 is going to struggle because ultra just announced early bird tickets go on sale next week - so a lot of kids on the fence about UR1 are just going to play it safe and get UMF (at least i think).. they waited too long to announce the second phase..

Do you know how many people UR1 is expecting to buy tickets though?

I know they can't be hoping for an Ultra turnout...

I think it's two distinct demographics too. UR1 is aimed at South Florida residents who are a little older and appreciate house music as well as punk rock...whereas Ultra markets itself as a destination festival where college kids fly from all over to come.

this.

what i dont understand... those of us who have evolved a bit beyond just trance have generally done so as we've gotten older. essentially meaning we have more money to spend. but they're not booking artists for us so our wallets have to go elsewhere. this is what i find stupid. i mean, dont not book the cheesey stuff, cuz the kids go crazy for it (and the mass of kids equal a lot of money), and most of the kids actually do make for a good vibe, but to leave the rest of us completely out just doesnt make financial sense to me.

edc las vegas does cater to other sounds though. hell they were the first ones to really bring hard style to a festival in the states. but i guess they just dont want to invest in the orlando edition. for example the production blew ass last year and i'd expect much of the same this year.

all signs point to the fact that this festival should be skipped. kind of sad because last year i had such hopes. but skip it, go to the las vegas one if anything.

Edc Vegas was amazing. Absolutely brilliant. When there's a struggle to figure out what stage to even consider going to and the ability to even ditch one and find another one was incredible. I'd much rather take the money after I sell the ticket and use the money towards a cruise. Much better company than the massive piles of ed up 18 year olds everywhere.
