there are many, many different kinds of new techno.
Here is a definition straight from Juan Atkins.
"If there is one central idea in techno, it is of the harmony between man and machine. As Juan Atkins puts it: "You gotta look at it like, techno is technological. It's an attitude to making music that sounds futuristic"
CLR is at the frontline of techno at the moment, and I would say the music coming out of that label fits the description Juan gives.

I disagree.

I stopped following techno in 2005 so I'm probably not in any position to argue. Who or what label would you say is "on the frontline"?

Stroboscopic Artefacts is probably the most forward-thinking label at the moment IMO. And their tracks still have that "grit" which I think is important for techno. I don't dig the stuff that sounds too clean or I don't consider it techno necessarily. Like most of the stuff that Drumcode puts out these days. Personally I like more classic-leaning labels like Skudge, Fachwerk, Clone Basement Series, ART, Delsin, Deeply Rooted House, etc...but to each his own.

I think you nailed it Adam, clean sounding techno is kind of a turn off for me too lately.
A lot of the stuff CLR puts out is very good... The podcasts that Chris is doing is just such an amazing project, pushing these sounds to all corners of the world.
Chris really opening up the label in the last couple of years really added a lot of variety to their sound. I love stroboscopic but CLR is definitely the main one.
How did this thread get from Steve Angelo to techno

What do they say exactly? I have a feeling they feel the same way as me, but that doesn't change the fact that Techno has stayed true to its percussive roots. I prefer the old sound but when I hear new stuff, I can't deny that it still smells like Techno.
Same thing Sneak's saying - that a lot of the new gen are fake-assed perpetrators who are sorely lacking the funk that was one of the foundations of the original sound.
As far as Techno having percussive roots - true to an extent, but easily as much a product of kids having grown up in households rooted in the aforementioned funk and Motown soul. When Jeff Mills played UR-01 for his mother, she pegged it as a Disco cut and told him it needed more bass... ;)

So, totally the opposite of what women think then?

He is just rambling on now, which is sad because he had something going when he was talking about house music.
Wittyhandle, I have a new arguement now.
"No, I think that no one has a copyright on the term house music, and that both can coexist without having to infringe on the other. "
I almost agree entirely with this, but I just can't accept that some music is being passed off as House music. I know, labeling music is pretentious bull bla bla , BUT!, I will not accept that this song is listed under house music on beatport.
