Vanguard sound wasn't that good last Friday. Although it may have something to do with it being 90s house.

Also, there wasn't much remodelling, and definitely the restrooms are still in a pretty bad condition.

Are you talking about 3 kings?

It must have been down to the music, as those guys know not to redline a mixer and I know whenever deep has been on there they used a rane rotary and it sounds like the best system in LA.

When Cox last played there it sounded awesome so it can't be the system. cannot wait to finally hear some good prog/trance in a decent club.

Yes, the 3 kings. It probably wasn't the sound system but some songs sounded like they came from a cassette player with hiss and everything.

They were probably playing worn out vinyl or bad rips.

Seriously, of all the soundsystems in LA, Vanguard is the finest. That snap from the snare and deep, clear bass on a Fnktn1 is something to behold.

someone showed a video about the funtion 1 system and the CEO or whatever he was saying that mp3 are the worse files to be played on these types of sound systems.

I think what you're thinking of was that video with Tony (my old client) from Funktion 1 where he talking about audio fidelity and how their speakers are made.

About the mp3 thing, he was basically saying that mp3's are crap (and rightly so) and when you have a system like a funktion 1 install, you're not doing yourself any favors by playing things that have serious data compression and reduced quality throughout the frequency range.

I have no idea why any self respecting DJ would play an mp3 anyway.

+1

With Track it Down Pro, WAV files are only 99 cents, the audience is listening... :eyes:

WAVs take up a lot of hard drive space. :(

Thing is, with trance now-a-days, most of it is mastered to sound good as an mp3. That next level of polish isn't there in many tracks. Not sure if techno or house has the same issue.

Granted, if I had regular paid gigs and what-not I'd definitely buy more hard drives and only d/l WAVs, but right now I don't have the luxury.

Whatever happened to flac?

Not worse but you can definitely tell there's a big difference in clarity. I tend to play WAV files when I open at Beta, every now and then I use MP3s (320). They sound muffled when mixing in, mixing out into a WAV, the WAV is very clear to the point that it feels the track is coming in louder.

It might sound the same on headphones or small monitors but there is a huge difference on big sound systems.
