I just came back from London last week and there's nothing but grumbles amongst Londoners. Mind you, the british love to complain.
I hope that once the opening ceremonies start people get more in the vibe of everything.
The weather is supposed to be really bad too, even by UK standards. It will be interesting to see how everything comes together/unfolds. |

| I'm hadn't heard about Underworld, but the Chems did a track called Theme For Velodrome. I dunno if it's the official theme song of the games or in what capacity it is related. After looking into it I guess I was mistaken to think is was designed for the ceremony itself. |

Underworld announced as Music Directors for Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

Underworld have enjoyed a long and diverse collaboration with Danny Boyle since their track ‘Born Slippy’ featured in his film ‘Trainspotting’. In 2010 they came together again to work on the National Theatre production of ‘Frankenstein’.
Danny Boyle said: ‘Appointing Underworld to direct the music in the Olympic Opening Ceremony is the final piece of the jigsaw for the team of leading British creatives who will deliver the Ceremonies.'
LOCOG has put in place a talented team of leading British creatives to lead the direction of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies, including Boyle, Kim Gavin, Jenny Sealey MBE and Bradley Hemmings as Artistic Directors. |

from what I've seen on TV, they seem to be fully prepared, even the air space is/will be closed
mind you, they're probably overshooting the security measures by a lot, just in case

Nice, now that you mention it I do remember Danny Boyle being named as the artistic director. Very psyched for the opening ceremonies :D

I can't imagine the Summer Olympics actually making money.
I love watching the Olympics and I try to watch as many different events as I can.
I do have a feeling that these Olympics are going to be an epic failure though. |

I think the big problem for us here is we do not get the luxury of actually getting to choose what events to watch (unless you have satellite then that's a completely different ball game). Emphasis seems to only be placed on events with North American competitors or events that are popular within the region.
I was disappointed to shambles back in 2008 with the absurd limited selection that was being aired by North American channels. Like that alone wasn't enough, channels like NBC were interrupting events early because it was time for America’s Got Talent or something equally mindless to kick in to entertain the sheep of the population.
I remember back when I was growing up in Egypt, there were at least 2 to 3 dedicated channels that just aired events around the clock in a round-robin fashion (and that was in the 90s). Sports like handball, volleyball, football, rugby, water polo, ground hockey, cycling, sailing, table tennis, taekwondo and many more were all there regardless of who was competing. If there was a conflict with a more important event, it was recorded then aired in the 12AM-8AM time slot. Here, apparently we prefer to watch s playing poker. :rolleyes: |
