Usain Bolt is a monster. He didn't have a very good start, but man after about 45m, he took off.

such exciting moments so far. One of the weirdest were the badmington ladies getting booted for playing like 2 year olds. lol.

ya, pretty much. because we are canada and we love sports coverage its pretty much assumed that no matter how we do they will let the nation know about it

I'm not sure what makes us such a joke could someone explain it to me? We've got a population of 32 million people, we're ranked 12th so far in medals. Many of the sports that we consider a national past-time are winter sports. The few summer ones we do excel at we've done pretty well in so far. Why does everyone always expect that we're going to contend for top 5 against countries like the US, China, Russia or Japan?

It's the summer games, not really our thing. We're never going to be able to compete with countries like America or China, who spend hundreds of millions on development and have a wide selection pool. Truth be told, we're holding our own in these games.
Can't believe Canada is 1-0 up on the Americans right now in Womans football. Haven't beat them since 2001. This is massive...

We are ranked 28, not 11 (based on gold, anyway). But this is about winning gold medals, not who has the most bronze. Canada has a lot more money they could throw at developing Olympic athletes. IDK about you guys but gym in high school for me was a joke.

Well in that case, why even award silver or bronze? And you can't tell me that France's 26 total medals is more impressive than Russia's 41 medals just because France has 1 more gold but 8 fewer silver and 8 fewer bronze than Russia.

That's the thing though, who cares about a gold medal (or any medal) in Horse Jumping. Or competitive walking. Or synchronized swimming. Or table tennis. etc.
Some of the summer sports are so pointless and irrelevant. I know it sounds biased and not very 'sporting', but I could really care less if Canada finishes first or last, when it comes to Water Polo and things of that nature. It's nice to perform well of course, but in a lot of the disciplines, nobody will actually care once the Olympics are over.
Obviously you have exceptions, certain sports are very 'relevant' in the Olympics, like Hockey (if the NHL grants player access), Womans Soccer, Track events, Skiing, etc., it just so happens that most of what's relevant to Canadians happens during the Winter Olympics.
Gutted the Woman didn't pull it off today against the Yanks. Questionable officiating to say the least. Literally had tears.

Only summer olympics we did well in, was when it was hosted by L.A
I am not sure why we even take part of the summer olympics. We are a winter sport country.

IF an athlete sets a personal best at the olympics then they/we should be proud of what they accomplished. To perform the best you have ever performed and on the biggest stage in the world is no small task.

Anyone see that girl Afghan sprinter? Talk about political correctness. She finished like 5 seconds behind everyone else in the preliminary round (which in short distance sprinting is like an eternity). Not sure how the qualification process works for the track events, but surely her spot could have gone to someone that would have at least been competitive, this girl never stood a chance.
Edit: Found a video.
Imagine being a sprinter from a country with a really competitive program, and you miss out on qualifying for the Olympics by 0.001 seconds. But this girl gets a place. Ridiculous.
