| It's a good creative outlet, gives me a sense of self-value, knowing that I did something properly. It's art, a way of expressing, on a level different from what I can do verbally, or with a pen. It's a good mind-training, and gives me the opportunity to contribute something to the world. Soon I'll achieve that, when I decide I'm good enough. |

| I want to make a track that is as good as the ones that make me feel really good. |

When we're deep into a session, what goes through our mind at the moment when we sit back and listen to say the main drop? I tend to get this image of an appreciative crowd. I guess thats like someone doing the air guitar in thier bedroom, imagining a grateful crowd.
There's somthing in the validation given by others.
Started making films recently, have finished 2. I enjoyed it as much as producing actually. Very satisfying. |
Same. I always have a little hope that one day I could be the one playing a festival playing all of my favorite tracks of all time with the crowd going nuts.

so your motive is to be popular and adulated ? |
You act like that is an unusual motive. Didn't you yourself write that you went to Julliard to prove people who said you couldn't wrong? |

that is a challenge, i didn't go to be liked. Being challenged is a virtue, If anything, i went to piss people off. If someone says it can't be done, i will do it. And that is why i am awesome at everything. I attack every endeavour with that sort of intensity that failure is not an option.
It is a motive that ty artists that don't last tend to have. My real motivation for doing music is that I don't hear what i want to hear thus do it myself. If i felt like i had nothing to offer, i would not bother. There is a difference between say, making people feel the way you felt when you hear awesome music, that is giving, but the way he phrased it, pathetic. Especially at such an old age.
Hate to ruin the ending but you don't become a big dj. |

It is a way to express my self and if someone appreciate that - it is a bonus.

Ooh ooh, what about me? Do I become a big DJ?
Any musician who says he's not doing it for the attention or adoration is either a filthy liar, or doing it wrong. Even guys who play the role of low-key anonymity (e.g., Burial) are doing that just to increase the mystique around their name to draw more attention. It's pretty damned effective when done right. |

I don't doubt that there's some ego involved. I get excited when I release a track but if I wanted to do something just to get famous, I'd write cheap bodice-rippers or something. The problem is that being the sole reason - and I've run into people who were doing it for glory and, as a result, doing it wrong. My excuse is that I'm just doing it wrong. But I still do it because it's what I like to do. |

I essentially write my music to be what I'd want to be listening to. When I feel listening to my own music is not more enjoyable than some of my favourite artists, I try to learn why, adapt, and keep striving to become my own favourite artist to listen to.
Whenever I finish a track, despite countless of hours listen to it, I always try to make sure it's the best piece of music that I enjoy listen to. A lot of times, when I find something else I enjoy more, I just go back to the drawing board and tell myself "look, why do I enjoy that more than my own"
Really, I think if people are not striving to create the best music that they enjoy, objectively, then they either are not passionate enough, trying hard enough, or just want money. |
